The word “defective” does not describe one who defects! 😀

Y’all want to defend Carano for actively spreading poorly researched opinions (if not outright falsehoods) but want Gwen Berry to be booted from the Olympic Team for turning ninety degrees. Thanks for Posting, Thought Police!
SMH Pick a side and stick with it! Be consistent!

I love how you retarded liberals like to change history. Everything Gina Carano said was 100% true you dumb idiot

      2. Marian

People are entitled to their opinions. But comments that are an insult to the millions of people who died because of one man’s hatred of their religion is morally wrong. Check the facts before you voice opinions on others.

      3. WayneDe

What was Carano’s poorly researched opinions?

      4. Sasha

Because representing your country in the Olympic trials and turning your back on the flag during the country’s anthem, and Gina comparing liberals to sheep during WW2 are remotely related.

Esposito obliviously didn’t read Gina’s social media post. Only an idiot would fire her and take it out of context.

Disney read her posts. Fans read her posts. Disney repeatedly told her to cut the s***. Disney repeatedly told her to stop engaging with fans in negative banter. But your girl just had to “keep it real”.

She made her choice. She decided “keeping it real” was worth more than a paycheck. Disney made a choice and decided their fans were worth more than several bigoted comments. I fail to see the issue here, both parties got what they wanted. Gina got to keep it real and Disney for to keep their fan base.

What a hacky article. What Disney did to Gina was a stunning and ominous blow against free speech by its actors reminiscent of 1950s blacklisting. To characterize Disney as being in anyway supportive of it’s actors’ free speech is Orwellian. It’s not free speech if you can only say things the studio is comfortable with, it’s controlled speech. I’m saying this as someone who thought Gina’s tweets were deeply stupid.

I had more respect for him as an actor before he weighed in on this. Disney in no way supports free speech and doesn’t even try to find an acceptable middle ground. Disney is like the Empire; do what we say or you’re gone, have an opinion of your own and you’re gone, Anything that doesn’t line up with what we say, you’re gone.

      1. SomeOneSpecial

“doesn’t even try to find an acceptable middle ground.”

Lol are you serious?!?! Disney tried REPEATEDLY to talk Gina off the ledge but she wasn’t having it. It was her way or no way. Gina is the one that can’t keep a steady job but somehow you figure Disney is party at fault here? This s*** is mind boggling.

Gina Carano told people the virus was fake, wearing masks is fake, and the vaccines are fake.

Children young adults in the Ellen formed who read that could be potentially harmed if they were to believe it.

Also it’s pretty bad to compare conservatives today to the plight of the Jews during world war II.

      1. Marco

No, it’s pretty appropriate when that’s exactly what’s going on.

Try to address the real comparison, and not the strawman that you came up with. Nobody ever said that conservatives today and Jews in the holocaust were treated the same. The comparison is that conservatives today are being treated like Jews were at the start, which they are. Being shouted down, openly free to criticize and insult, having people try to justify assault against them, mass calls to boycott and run them out of businesses so they can’t shop, and so on and so forth.

        Try not being disingenuous.

First off an actor or actresses job is to entertain, I neither care nor do I want to hear your political point of view. I pay money to see them perform. In my humble opinion, I look at all people in the entertainment business as the cute little monkey that dances around the organ grinder as he plays music. So please all of Hollywood and athletes, shut up and dance. That is all I need from you and your kind is entertainment. I pay good money to see the crap that Hollywood puts out and y’all’s opinion on the body politic doesn’t matter to me or anyone. Please just shut up and do your job and entertain keep your opinions to your friends and family, we the real people just don’t care about your political stance. DANCE MONKEYS!!!

        2. D.

          Well said Marco.

        3. Bren

I think you’ve been insulting just fine for all these years. When Obama was in office, the conservatives were full of their hatred and insults. When Trump was in office, it was escalated to ridiculous levels. Now he’s out, and the insults towards anyone who thinks different are still flying high. In respect to someone working for Disney, or any other corporation, they have an image to maintain. They have contracts. They know what is allowed and what is not. Otherwise, how do you explain all the men not being allowed to have beards at Disney parks for so long. Did they try to go against their agreement? No. If they did, they would be fired. Sorry, she did it to herself. But keep the insults flying! After twelve years of listening to know it alls, it’s awesome to know the kindergarteners are still five years old while the rest of us know how to have conversations, express views and have open communication without resorting to or sinking to your level. It’s awesome watching you implode and have nothing better than name calling and insults. Really shows the intelligence levels. LOL!

      2. Todd R Hudson

Shows what you know because her pist never said conservatives it said political views which meant both sides. Which is true if you were a trump supporters you would get raked over the coals in certain areas and if you were a Democrat or biden supporter same thing in certain areas.

I don’t agree with all of her opinions either, but I have also read The Crucible. This is all very familiar. I definitely recommend people watch some videos on the second red scare. There definitely seems to be opinions that actors and athletes are not allowed to have.

What a rediculous article…”we support free speech if you represent our belief structure” is the very OPPOSITE of free speech. What kind of moron would believe otherwise.

    1. Xenophon Alexandrou

Perfectly said.. unfortunately the brainwashed majorities will believe anything no matter how preposterous and void of logic and common sense things are.

  5. Jim

I quit Disney when they ‘quit’ Gina Carano for having a voice. What a puff piece. You’re only allowed one voice and that’s left and lefter.

    1. SomeOneSpecial

Knocking on the LGBTQ+ community. Check

Denying the results of the 2020 election results because your boy didn’t win. Check

Denying the results of the covid vaccine without any supporting evidence this endangering public health. Check

Crossing the line one should never cross in politics but trying to compare your “victim good” to the plight of the Jews. Check

Yea you know. Can’t see how anyone could possibly let go of such an upstanding bigoted employee like that.

  6. Chris Kinney

    What a joke.

  7. Mike Saint

Social Control Jackals @LucasFilmLtd fire Gina Carano over her “Free Speech” rights. Cant wait for everyone @LucasFilmLtd to be fired when Jon is running the show. #WeLoveGinaCarano

  8. David J.Santilll jr.

I concur. The firing of Gina Carano demonstrates Disney’s draconian stance on free speech. Gina’s comparison parallel Pedro’s yet the fact that he was on the other side of the debate and felt no repercussions from Disney and Gina was fired proves the point. Get with it Disney. You are losing your TRUE fan base.

  9. John

    Total asskiss to Disney/Lucas.

  10. Darrin Brown

Carano stuffed her own foot in her own mouth and now has to pay a big girl price. She was given every chance to walk that dumb shit back but decided to stick to her guns. Her guns were empty. And made of play doh. Free speech is not speech without consequences.

  11. Michael56789

Gina Carano said her social media, the virus is fake, masks are fake, and the vaccines are fake. Children, young adults, and the ill-informed that follow her could be potentially harmed and their loved ones if they believe it.

Not to mention comparing modern-day conservatives as the same as the plight of the Jews during world war II.

  12. Pooppa

This article is just an opinion piece and as such is part of the bigger issue of journalism nowadays presenting opinions as fact. Do yourselves a favor and go read the real article at the Independent. Not once does that article nor Esposito bring up Gina Carano. Sure you can allude to that and make it sound like Esposito was referring to Gina, but you can just as easily allude that he meant Disney made mistakes in not supporting John Boyega and his stance on BLM. Especially since that is what the Independent mentioned when referring to Esposito’s quotes.

    1. Michael Wilson

Nobody cares what Hollywood thinks about politics. Can these people just shut up and do their jobs. And that would be to….ENTERTAIN US

      1. SomeOneSpecial

I care. Politics are apart of everyday life. Politics has played a role in sports and entertainment. It’s said you can’t play this sport because you’re black. You can’t play this role because you’re a woman. I understand that children can’t handle an adult conversation though. It frightens and scares them.

  13. Givi

That’s just ridiculous, after firing Gina Carano…

  14. Eric

There was a great South Park episode, season 23, I believe, with Disney’s appeasement of China’s censorship. It was all over it. Hollywood must go through screening of anything considered critical of China. That’s another element to this free speech issue.

  15. Barry

I think this is the key point from Esposito: “there’s an appropriate way to express yourself and also be inclusive of the family of filmmakers you work with”. Most ideas across the political spectrum can be expressed respectfully. I consider myself a conservative and yet I can have friendly conversations with my more liberal and socialist friends. But if you are in a high-profile position, like a Star Wars actor, you need to consider that the way you present your ideas can have a positive or negative impact on your employer, regardless of what part of the political spectrum you occupy. If you regularly spout off in a manner designed to alienate a significant part of your employer’s fan base, then you will become expendable, regardless of the roll you play.
