Unfortunately it may have been something that coincidentally happened while we were riding it in December 2019, as it was running fine until our party of 6 rode it.
As we approached the next in line, our party, consisting of myself (petite) and husband; my (petite) teenage daughter; my college aged son & his girlfriend (also petite), as well as my adult brother. The cast member inquired “how many in your party”, my brother answered “six”….the cast member looked at us (with 3 average sized men and 3 petite females) & said, “can you all fit in ONE CAR” (which we had heard several times during our trip so it wasn’t rocket science, except it shouldn’t have even been asked for THIS set up on THIS ride!). Someone in our party automatically said yes, to keep us all together in one entire car, as you know they’re in pairs & we didn’t want to be in a completely separate car, so we figured the cast member meant in a back-to-back car. But the cast member tried to fit us ALL in ONE CAR!
As our long ADULT LEGS tried to squeeze in, by the time our 5th adult climbed in tightly, our 6th adult was getting shut out AS THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY CLOSED, SO ONE OF US STUCK THEIR HAND IN BETWEEN THE AUTOMATIC DOORS (like you instinctively do to stop an elevator door!) Causing the ride to stop momentarily….at which time the cast member asked us to “please split up into separate cars”….NO DUH!
Bottom line….we split up (as I didn’t want, but, no biggie) and suddenly as we got off it shut down & for the rest of the week we were there, it was down!
So we can’t help and wondered….humm ‘coincidence’ OR…. the ‘CAUSE’….LOL ?
Yeah, I think was exactly what caused it. The 6- person factor has closed many rides throughout the history of the park. This is why we can’t have nice things. Thanks!
This is false – this ride has not been closed for over a year as my family was able to ride on 3/4/2020 with no issues just a week before the park closed.
I went for the DVC night in March 2020, we all had to evacuate and walk back down from ride. According to others on DVC site, it kept breaking down for weeks. They would fix it, people would go on have no problems and next group would be evacuated.
I agree with the thought it may have something to do with the Tron construction. Although I have not been in MK Tomorrowland since the closing so Im not sure how close to the construction PM actually is. BUT with my own experience in work with project construction etc., and safety regulations. It could very much have something to due with safe distances from cranes, lifted work etc. If something were to come loose, swing out of control in one direction or the other, you would not want several hundred pounds or more of steel slamming into one of the people mover cars as it is rolling along.. that would be a very bad thing. Of course this is just speculation on my part as I haven’t seen any of the Tron construction from inside Tomorrowland since before the shutdown.
I heard it was because a guest was lost within the ride itself. Last time I was on it the staff was paging him. I believe his name was Mr. Tom Morrow. Apparently this has happened with this guest before.
First of all, you need something to look at or be entertained by, rather than just a ride through a series of empty tunnels. Also this ride is from the 1970’s and probably needs a BIG TIME refreshment. Biggest thing on the ride when I last took it in OCT 2019 was to look down into a gift shop and to hear people screaming on the Matterhorn Bobsleds. I love this ride DO SOMETHING with it!!!!!!
It could be that parts are difficult to obtain, either because they ran out of stock or they aren’t made any more, forcing Diz to manufacture them “in- mouse.”
My family was there week of Feb 8th 2021 and they said it was “testing” and set to open soon. But there was A LOT of work being done on Tron including welding and crane work to lift pieces into place. It was easily seen from the Tomorrowland Speedway and especially the Barnstormer wait line. So I blame delays on Tron and the dirty cvd word for the “attraction” reopening. Also agree that they need to do something with it as we have only ridden it twice in 25 years.
