We went to Disney World around New Years. Where we are from, masks are only required indoors in public places. So we had to set aside our civil liberties to come. WDW can require masks 24-7 because they are privately owned. No masks when you are in your hotel room, eating, or drinking. With that being said, Disney Travel Company did not give us any discounts. We stayed at Caribbean Beach in a preferred room in Martinique. Discounts were only on certain rooms (pirate rooms) and they didn’t have many rooms allotted for that. I can’t get my husband into a full size bed. With a previous vacation they cancelled in June, we were supposed to get a free meal plan. When they cancelled the June vacation, they said by the way no free meal plan now. With all that being said, we got half the magic at full price. You feel the cast member layoffs. Transportation was terrible. I also encountered a nasty cast member at Sleepy Hallow. We also encountered nasty and ignorant (unaware of resort layout) cast members at our resort involving transportation. We will not return until all the magic is restored and the wonderful cast members are back in place.
We just returned home tonight from Disney World celebrating our child’s 10th birthday and I must say it was a major disappointment on all sides. Our child has never been so for him it was fine but we were just terribly put off by the whole process. Having to spend the whole time staring at our phones trying to get reservations to eat and check on ride time lines. The Disney hotel was horrible we stayed 4 nights spent a ton of money, ($2,000) nothing was open and never got a dinner reservation. We stopped by the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa on the way home spent $24 and had a way better time ?
We are visiting in March. I will keep my expectations low knowing it will not be the same, but just happy to be able to go someplace fun after this long ordeal. Disney lost a fortune this year so it is understandable they cannot offer many discounts. Grateful they are open. Here in California Disneyland has been closed a year with no expected date to reopen.
My family went last October with much of the same hours and waits that are currently in place. We had a great time! You attitude will get you far. Enjoy the Disney magic for what it is and know the full experience is what you make if it. Love the Characters who made smile to all who would accept them. Have a magical time!
All i can say is the sheer desperation of people even contemplating visiting the parks in these conditions is astonishing! No i don’t mean the coronavirus. I mean depriving yourself or your child of oxygen all day by wearing a mask all day or the satanic ritualism of the 6 feet apart.
Desperate people!
Went in December with two older kids. We all wear masks all day at school and jobs so we are used to them but still difficult to walk everywhere in masks. We liked the meal ordering. It cut down on waiting in good lines. No character greetings, parades or fireworks definitely takes away the festive atmosphere. We were able to ride all the rides every one wanted but lines were still an hour long even with limited capacity in the parks. This I don’t understand.
I miss it terribly (by now I would have booked a June trip and been busily planning restaurant reservations and being full of anticipation), but I just can’t stomach the price for only a partial experience. Also, I’m sorry, but wearing a mask all day in the heat does not speak “fun vacation” to me. As soon as the experience returns to normal, I will be first in line to book my trip. Hopefully that will be sooner rather than later. In my state, we are seeing huge drops in cases, hospitalizations and deaths now that we are on the other side of the Winter peaks of Covid and the flu. Add to that the vaccine once it becomes widely available enough for people to actually take and those numbers should likely come down even more. I think we are beginning to see a definite light at the end of the tunnel.
Don’t know where people are thinking that the parks aren’t filled. Epcot is pretty full each time I go (usually once a week) even though the front of the park is in shambles and there are few attractions that aren’t eons old. Haven’t been able to get on the new rides in Hollywood Studios for months and eateries are always packed. Can’t imagine they can handle many more customers.
Wearing Mask outside is Covid theatre at its best but they are obviously trying to appease the unions and possibly California in an attempt to show they are super safe and conscientious. I am visiting in March to get away from Michigan which has had draconian lockdowns and 15 degree weather so anything will be better than being here. I understand people not wanting to come with all of the reductions and changes. I think the worst are masks outdoors, parks closing at 5-7PM, having to reserve in advance what park you go to (how do you know this weeks/months in advance?), and no fireworks or parades (MK has not had a night parade in years – what a shame).
We were there in July when they first opened. We were there in September, November and December. My wife and daughter left today (unfortunately I couldn’t go with them. I have 2 separate trips booked for April. No, it’s not quite as magical as normal. I really miss the nighttime shows. But, the crowds are low and ride lines are shorter and we feel like we’re not just rushing from one ride to another to try to get them all in. We have time to leisurely walk through the parks, do a little shopping and just sit for a while.
