You want to buy it away from Warner, who (still, even after the Hobbit trilogy) considers it one of their three most sacred pillars holding up the very foundation of the studio, along with Harry Potter and Batman?

…HAHAHAHA!! Rots, as they say, o’ruck.

    1. Mark

Disney could also buy WB u know

      1. Alex Lue

Who would have thought Disney would buy 20th Century Fox?

      2. BlueSun

The hell they could… Do you know how much they went into debt after buying fox? Then no one expected the pandemic. They lost $7 billion

      3. BlueSun

No they can’t. Do you have any idea how much debt they went into over fox? No one expected the pandemic and they lost $7 billion.

I doubt if it is for sale, but there might be a franchise deal. Maybe a distribution deal on WB products. You are bidding against Universal for sure.

        1. Alex Lue

It would be a big bidding war!

    2. Alex Lue

I say Disney buys Warner, haha!

Absolutely not! I love Disney but not enough for me to be okay with them potentially ruining what is already a beautiful thing. This is terrible idea. I’m all for Universal Studios making a theme park for it but that’s it. If it went into the hands of Disney, they would try to reboot it film wise first and I am not for that. Only reason I’m cool with Amazon’s show is because they are investing so much money and they have the Tolkien estate mostly controlling the creative rights. Disney doesn’t like sharing so I feel they would kick the Tolkien estate out of it.

      1. Daniel

I agree 🙂 Disney is ruining their own movies! They shouldn’t be allowed to touch those amazing movies!

      2. Patrick

Right on the money here. Disney would try to change the story, make it their own, etc and ruin it.

      3. Alex Lue

I totally understand. Either way, I hope LOTR is transformed into a land!

  2. Martin

    Absolutely not !

    1. Alex Lue

      It’d be pretty crazy!

  3. Anthony

Hell no. Tolkien DESPISED Disney. They would destroy the beauty and essence of a story that is free from all their ideological BS.

    1. Alex Lue

Yeah, it’d cause a lot of backlash for sure.

      1. Andrea C

No! I think Universal should buy it, and create the theme park.

    2. Noneof yourbusiness

No, we don’t need another wonderful mythos to become corrupted and destroyed by the neo leftist nonsense.

  4. Bryan

I say leave it the way it is. Disney has enough. Honestly I think Disney should get back to what Disney really was back in the 90”s and the early 2000”s

    1. Alex Lue

      That would be fun!

    2. Noneof yourbusiness

No, we don’t need another beautiful mythos to become corrupted by neo leftist nonsense.

  5. Celina Purdy

I agree, all disney would do is put in all their ideological bs and PC and ruin the entire thing. They need to leave well enough alone, they already ruined starwars for me.

    1. Alex Lue

Good thing that this was just a “what if” article!

  6. Brendan

    No, God no.

    1. Alex Lue

      I totally understand.

  7. Neoleftist Slayer

No, we don’t need another perfectly crafted mythos to be corrupted and destroyed by the neo leftist nonsense.

  8. Gin

Disney should stick what they know. Tolkien is NOT something that needs to be politicized. That’s exactly what Disney would do.

  9. Spring

Absolutely not! Tolkien HATED the way Disney changed fairy tales. Disney approached Disney once about making his books into animated films and Tolkien REFUSED. The author’s wishes should still be respected and Disney should never have rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise

    1. Daryl Taylor

Well then Tolkien was an idiot.

      1. Alex Lue

        I mean, I wouldn’t say that, lol

  10. Nuclear hurricane

Website owners take this fake fraking article down before it provokes us. Disney should not own lord of the rings they own too much and are pieces of shiz

    1. Alex Lue

We don’t mean to provoke anyone. It was just a “what if” idea to see what others might think about it.

  11. Stephen Freitas

Over the years, Disney and Universal have tried to go down this path. The Tolkien family does not want the franchise represented in a theme park.

    1. Alex Lue

I completely respect that. Sometimes things should stay the way they are.

  12. Van

I doubt if it is for sale, but there might be a franchise deal. Maybe a distribution deal on WB products. You are bidding against Universal for sure.

    1. Definitely NO. Disney should be concentrating any extra money to move Disneyland out of California. I know Disney is a huge Democrat supporter, but their party has ruined the lively hood of 10’s of thousands of people. Please move out of California and reopen in a state that will appreciate you employing thousands of people as well as a tourist industry.

  13. Joanne

Disney should NEVER own the LOTR franchise. Disney will make it PC and will change some of the beloved characters, just like they did with red-headed Ariel. As much as I love going to Disney every year and all things Disney, if they touched it, they would ruin it. We have already decided that we aren’t going to Disney in 2021. They are already losing my family. So sad really.

  14. David

Absolutely! The stories are timeless and beloved worldwide. Only Disney can pull off a Land that features the shire in all its glory. What a great concept. A hobbit like hotel or a fantasy/themed hotel would be ideal.

    1. Alex Lue

Thank you for your positivity! A Shire-themed hotel would be so cool!

    2. David Smith

No, just no, the thing about Tolkien is that he was 110% against disney taking middle earth, he hated the way they changed fairy tales and how some things were represented by disney(i.e the 7 dwarves). to sell it to disney is a horrible idea not only because they would most likely not be able to continue on the works of Tolkien without it being worse, it would be complete disrespect to the man who created the series

  15. SG

Yes yes yes! Y’all are nuts, this would be so fun! Do y’all also hate Star Wars, Jurrasic Park, Harry Potter, etc?! What’s wrong with you people? You subscribe to THIS newsletter, are you Disney fans or trolls?!

    1. Alex Lue

Thank you! I didn’t mean to make anyone mad. I just had a funny thought and wondered what others felt about it. I’m a big LOTR fan, and it would be so cool for Middle-Earth and Tolkien’s characters to be in a theme park- regardless if it’s Disney or Universal.

  16. Matthew Brewster

I agree that it would make a LOT of sense for Diz to buy the rights to the Tolkien “universe.” However, recreating The Shire might prove tricky, since the Hobbits are much smaller than humans!

  17. Benjamin

Yes they should! They need to make a new trilogy based on the world of Tolkien and it has to be produced by Kathleen Kennedy! /sarcasm

  18. Barry Moss

I could see a LOTR land at one of the Disney parks but frankly paying big bucks for the franchise wouldn’t make sense. The main books have already been thoroughly mined for movies and somehow I just don’t think The Silmarillion: The Movie would put butts in seats the way that The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit did. I could see them licensing LOTR for theme park attractions or perhaps even an entire land, but I’m doubtful that the Tolkein estate would be interested.

There is a lot of other material out there that Disney could acquire or license for movies or theme park attractions (op perhaps both–if the movie is a hit, then create the theme park attraction).

Doctor Who could be a huge hit as a theme park attraction. The BBC would never sell the rights wholesale, but perhaps a deal could be made to license it for the parks? But apparently, the Doctor will be appearing at a new theme park in Kent, so that ship may have sailed.

Eric Flint’s 1632 time-travel series, while well known by sci-fi fans, isn’t well known by the general public. It could make a pretty good series of movies, or a good series for Disney+. Amazon already dabbled into alt-history with Man in the High Castle, perhaps Disney could jump into this as well? Alternatively, perhaps one of Harry Turtledove’s alt-history series? But there probably isn’t a lot of theme park synergies in something like this.

Terry Pratchett’s Discworld is just waiting for a serious attempt to make a major movie or streaming series. Lots of material to mine. There were a couple of movies made out of his books, but they didn’t gain much traction outside of the UK. Perhaps Disney could turn it into a worldwide hit with a better budget and better distribution? Netflix certainly seemed to do well with Pratchett and Gaiman’s Good Omens.

  19. You know, Disney has made better relationships with both Sony and now slowly, but obviously Comcast(because they made a deal for Disney+ and ESPN+ on Xfinity). They could buy both companies in the span of 5 years. No reason why they shouldn’t form a friendship with AT&T/WarnerMedia either by gaining the theme park rights to Lord of the Rings.

  21. I love Lord of the Rings and have read it many times. I love All things Disney and have done DLP many times.Make my dream come true bring the two together. The shire and frontierland OMG
