Toonify

Have you ever wondered what you would look like if you were in a Disney movie? This new software will take your picture and show you what you would look like in the Disney animation style.

It’s called Toonify.

Developed by Justin Pinkney and Doron Adler, Toonify is currently in its prototype phase.

“This toonification system is made using deep learning,” the developers write on the site. “It uses a deep learning method called Generative Adversarial Networks. In fact, it’s a rather convoluted combination of StyleGAN2, resolution-dependent model interpolation, and pixel2style2pixel.”

“The algorithm works best with high-resolution images without much noise,” they added. “Looking straight on to the camera also seems to work best. Something like a corporate headshot tends to work well.”

A few of us here at Inside the Magic each have a desire to be our own Disney characters so we decided to give it a try!

Seeing the Disney-style version of ourselves put a smile on everybody’s face and was a fun way to spend time together remotely. Some clear things we learned using this system were that it will only Toonify one face per photo and any hats and backgrounds have a chance to becoming a part of your cartoon hair. But, we do look like we could be in a Disney animated movie and recognize that if this is only the prototype, it is only going to get better from here.

Unfortunately, this system is not free. You can purchase credit that allows you to Toonify 10 images for ~£3 (~$4 USD). Once payment is confirmed, you will be emailed a License Keycode which you copy and paste onto the site when you go to do your Toonification.

Click here to give it a try! See your Disney-drawn self for the first time!
