Some cms do not know what furlough means that they arent fired! Besides their union (is words i can not say here) i mean they only got paid min wage recent while the rest of the state paid that for a while! No wonder they think disney failed at least they have the comfort in their managers i know cms whom are grateful for the phone calls they get just checking in see if they need anything it helps them feel comforted someone within the magic cares!
Are they complaining about getting $274 per week plus the extra $600 PER WEEK extra that unemployment is paying them, plus they are keeping their medical benefits without having to pay their premiums out of pocket? What is broken about an unemployment that is paying them $874 per week?
It is not broken. It is functioning EXACTLY as former Gov Rick Scott wanted. Really good for business and not so good for those unemployed. BTW Scott renamed it the REMPLOYMENT system.
Not any different for them than anyone else. Talk to the union. That’s what you pay dues for. :::::rollingeyes::::: Never been in favor of unions and likely never will. Disney kept you on the payroll as long as feasible. Collecting $600 weekly in addition to your unemployment should be enough to tide you over until you are back. It’s a furlough…not fired.
Except they aren’t protesting that. Actually read the article. Most aren’t even getting $300 a week. The system here in Florida is a joke and de santis doesn’t care to fix it. They aren’t blaming Disney. They’re blaming Florida. Also without a union they would just be fired. So I believe they are happy with Disney has done so far.
Do you people understand what unemployment is for?! to get someth oj ng while you find another job! It is not meant for you to LIVE off of. If it did, what incentive would there be to find another job? Point is to get another job ASAP. Also it was not meant for this situation with so many people. Hence the reason for the additional 600 from federal government. No way did they have time to prepare the system for the influx of applications of this magnitude.
To those who only read the headline and decide to make your opinion from there, later in the article it does state that the cast members are protesting the state governments poorly functioning unemployment process, not the company. Which everyone in Florida can agree, especially anyone who has had to use the website recently, is failing. There are hundreds of thousands of applications that have yet to be processed and it’s taking weeks for some people to even see their first check. Don’t take this as Disney cast members asking for a pity party or blaming the company, this is Disney cast members trying to spread a message to help every unfortunately unemployed person in the state of Florida. Governor De Santis failed to have the unemployment process updated and ready for this, and now the people are paying the price. Not just Disney employees, everyone whose job is considered “non essential”. So please do not misread this article.
Very well said. I was just getting ready to post a comment stating almost exactly what you posted. Thank you. The Florida system is broken not Disney. Disney is doing the best they can with something that has disrupted all our lives. CMs are in much better shape than so many others. We still have benefits and are being pd till mid-April. Think of those who are receiving NOTHING from their employer. No $$$, no benefits, no guaranteed return to their job. CMs will be returning to their jobs because they were furloughed not fired. Florida’s unemployment payout is low, very low but fortunately the government will add an additional $600 to help us. Please don’t protest Disney as they are NOT the problem. Protest Florida government and demand an increase in unemployment benefits. Mr. DeSantis, are you listening??
they got to be kidding they have received pay until now how about us people that have not received any pay for more then month. I have not seen any pay for 5 weeks now and don’t see as if I am going to anytime soon!
I’m so sorry Gary and I feel horrible for all those in the exact same situation. This pandemic is unprecedented and something I hope to never see again in my lifetime. It’s time to get Gov. DeSantis to restructure our unemployment system. The payout is a very small something but it is nowhere near enough to live on. Take care Gary and I hope things look up for all of us real soon.
This is stating incorrect information the payment for each person on the unemployment roster will not be receiving $215.00 but $815.00 a week for 4 months and this could be increased if the quarantine continues past the 4 months. You need to do further research before posting. (My son and daughter-in-law are both now on furlough, and this is what they were told). So this with the stimulus should not be something to complain about. I am retired, please give me this much to live off it would be a drastic increase!
Your calculation is including the government assistance of $600 right? People are upset with the Florida unemployment payout because it is so low ($215 is way too low and not a wage anyone can live on). The info as stated is correct for the Florida payout NOT including the government assistance.
But they are taking care of them the best way they know how. Can’t expect them to support CMs forever. They are doing a lot more than other companies so give them a break. And no, I’m not a CM but I am an Annual Passholder.
Florida’s unemployment system is a joke. Who can live and support a family on that amount of money. To add insult to injury, you can’t even sign up without it taking weeks. This is unprecedented times, but our leadership is failing us. We need to remember this come election time.
DeSantis didn’t set up this system. He can only work with what was passed on to him. Hopefully, he’ll hear the cries of the workers and fix it. I think he’s doing an excellent job considering the unprecedented circumstances we’re all dealing with.

You kidding? It’s much easier to read a headline and then complain.
Also I agree with what you said.

What’s sad is a multi million dollar place like Disney World/Land, which costs an arm and a leg to get into, can’t take care of their own employees.
