Calling all National Treasure fans — The long 12 year wait may be officially over!
There have been recent reports that National Treasure 3 is underway and finally moving forward with Disney.
Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) may once again go through a puzzle-filled film as he rips through pages of American history along with his best friend Riley Poole (played by Justin Bartha).
Jerry Bruckheimer will once again be producing the film along with the Bad Boys for Life screenwriter Chris Bremner.
There was a report from The Hollywood Reporter regarding the news of Sony developing Bad Boys 4. Within that report, it explained that Bremner would be writing the script for the new film after the success with Bad Boys for Life. And within the last paragraph of the report, it was stated that Bremner was also writing National Treasure 3 for Bruckheimer, who also just produced Bad Boys for Life.
Because The Hollywood Reporter article focused around Bad Boys, there wasn’t much buzz on the little bit of information regarding National Treasure 3. But leave it up to the hardcore fans who have been waiting 12 years for a third film to the series to find this “concrete evidence”.
Back in 2018, National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub told ComicBook that he, Bruckheimer, and National Treasure star Nicolas Cage were all ready to continue the film series and create a third installment, but unfortunately, Disney wasn’t ready to spend the money.
“It’s a no,” Turteltaub said at the time. “I would love there to be. Nic is like, in wardrobe right now. Jerry Bruckheimer is ready to go. We would love to.”
He also mentioned that someone would have to “come up with about $80 million” in order to get the third film made.
With the arrival and extreme success of the new Disney streaming service, Disney+, this may have changed Disney’s mind since the last discussion was brought up. Especially since Disney+ now offers more ways for a film like National Treasure 3 to get made.
