Credit: Disney / Cirque Du SoleilCirque fans rejoice! Disney has just given us a sneak peek at some behind-the-scenes footage for the brand-new Cirque du Soleil show coming to Disney Springs, Spring 2020.
Michael Laprise, writer and show director, describes the show as “a love letter to the art of animation.”
In a press release statement earlier this year, Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, stated:
“We have joined forces with Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Animation Studios to create a show that combines Disney animation and heart with the unique artistry and theatrical sensibility of Cirque du Soleil. We are honored to be the first company trusted to work and create around these classic Disney characters in this unique way.’’
The video shares some details about the story we will experience during the show. The main character is a little girl named Julies, the daughter of an animator. The story will follow Julies’ adventure in the magical world of animation from childhood until she becomes an animator herself.
Fabrice Becker, the show’s creation director, shares about the show: “it’s a very universal story. It’s a story about legacy, it’s a story about passing values from a father to a child.” He also shares that in their research for the show, they discovered how physical animation was to create. It makes sense a physically driven show like Cirque would explore this genre for what will surely be a work of art!
