If they were remakes to keep a hold of rights before they become public domain I could kind of get, but the remakes are largely all remakes of movies from within my lifetime, and I’m only 32. While I enjoyed ‘The Lion King’, Elton John was right in criticising it as losing the heart the original had, ‘Aladdin’ was okay but not a patch on the original (and not just the robin williams factor), ‘Beauty and the Beast’ also felt a bit forced, visually very nice, but brought nothing to the table. As one of the forefronts of storytelling it makes me shudder that they do appear to have run out of ideas – if they’re struggling, as a writer, I would happily come forward with enough material to last for the next 20 years so they could have original movies! At D23 Expo this year all I wanted to know was the next movie in the Classic canon, and was thrilled to see it not a sequel – I liked Ralph Breaks the Internet, and actually am looking forward to Frozen 2, but remakes and sequels should be occasional, and not streamed out with no room to breathe (like Marvel movies, which I loved, but there’s always a new one that I no longer care – but I’ll never stop caring about Disney)
The other thing too is half these big movies had musicals based on em and if you were going to do live versions…. and you didnt use anything that the musical did to make it 100x better then why do it?? And also to add some people arent lucky to see the musicals it would have been a great way to bring all the best parts together i bet the live movies would have done better esp lion king and ali! That got stale bc it was nothing new!
Comments for Disney exec Alan Horn says live-action remakes are limited
