"Black Panther" The 2019 Oscar nominations were announced this morning and several Disney favorites from the past year made the cut. Most importantly, Marvel’s “Black Panther” became the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture and also earned nods in several other categories.
Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns” also earned several nominations, including Best Original Score and Best Original Song (“The Place Where Lost Things Go”), which was a somewhat surprising twist. The movie’s show-stopping song “Trip a Little Light Fantastic” seemed an obvious pick for a Best Original Song nomination.
Other notable nominations: both “Incredibles 2” and “Ralph Breaks the Internet” were nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, and Disney dominated the Best Visual Effects category with nods for “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Christopher Robin,” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
