Starting November 1, Walt Disney World is offering guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom the chance to get “Up Close with Rhinos” on a new guided adventure.
The 60-minute experience helps guests learn more about the white rhinos of Kilimanjaro Safaris, including how they’re cared for by Disney’s animal team and how Disney is working to save endangered rhinos in the wild. “As part of this intimate experience, guests may even get a chance to touch a rhino,” says Disney.
“I love talking to guests about how unique each individual rhino’s personality is. I know once guests come and meet the rhinos, they are going to see just how amazing they are and will want to help us secure a future for them,” said Caitlin Miller, a member of the rhino care team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The “Up Close with Rhinos” experience costs $40 per person plus tax and discounts are available to select Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members. One tour takes place per day starting at 11:00 AM, and you should check in at 10:45 AM at the Curiosity Animal Tours kiosk across from the entrance to Kilimanjaro Safaris.
This is an outdoor experience, so be sure to dress accordingly. Guests must be at least 4 years old to participate, and those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Also note, you can’t bring cameras, cell phones, and recording equipment into the rhino enclosure, but they’re fine to use in the open viewing areas.
Booking for the experience begins on September 22, which also happens to be World Rhino Day. The first experience takes place on November 1 and there are currently tours listed through March 18, 2019, on the Walt Disney World website, though that’s subject to change.
