This September, cruisers aboard the Disney Wonder will have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty and rich history of Astoria, Oregon, home of the cult classic 1980s kids’ adventure film “The Goonies.”
Disney Cruise Line will be offering a variety of Port Adventures ranging from active excursions to exploration of the local culture and arts.
The first offering will appeal to the more adventurous guests. You can enjoy an excursion to Mount St. Helens National Monument where you can explore the fascinating remnants of the 1980 volcanic eruption and enjoy a picnic-style lunch on a mountain vista with incredible views.
This excursion also includes a beautiful ride to and from the ship along the Columbia River with more breathtaking views and historic ties to the legendary travels of Lewis and Clark.
The next offering will allow guests to explore Historic Astoria and Fort Clatsop, where Lewis and Clark camped out after the completion of their travels. Visit the towering Astoria Column and ascend the 164-step staircase to enjoy unrivaled panoramic views of the Pacific and and the peaks of the Cascade Range.
Then, head to the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park for a tour of Fort Clatsop, where you will see historical reenactors recreate the famed tale. Finally, check out one of most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the West Coast at the Columbia River Maritime Museum on Astoria’s waterfront.
The final Port Adventures are shorter, perfect for those who want to have some time to explore the city on their own. The Create Your Own Glassblowing Masterpiece tour will allow guests to go behind-the-scenes at the Fernhill Glass Studio to learn about glassblowing and even create their own unique souvenir.
The Filmed in Astoria tour will take guests to the filming locations and local landmarks you may recognize from some of Hollywood’s classics, like the aforementioned “The Goonies.”
This four-night Pacific Coast cruise departs from Vancouver, Canada on September 10, stopping in Astoria before making its way down the coast to San Diego.
