Last night at “America’s First Theme Park” Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, the thrilling drop coaster HangTime— the first roller coaster of its type on the west coast– made its official debut with appearances by Snoopy, beach party dancers, and the sensational surf rock band Ride the Tide.
During the HangTime preview party event (attended exclusively by media and friends of Knott’s Berry Farm) I had the exciting opportunity to hop aboard the cliff-hanging surf-themed coaster myself, and I can say it is certainly a lot of fun– after that suspenseful ninety-degree vertical lift and hair-raising fifteen-story drop– the steepest in California.

Prior to boarding the ride, however, attendees were treated to a performance of “Beach Blanket Beagle” (from Knott’s upcoming new summertime show), a speech from the park’s vice president and general manager John Storbeck, and fireworks over the colorful lighting effects presentation illuminating HangTime itself.
