Back in February during the park’s Lunar New Year celebration, Universal Studios Hollywood debuted a wonderful and incredibly popular new (and then-limited-time-only) meet-and-greet with a fantastic puppet version of the Mr. Ping character from “Kung Fu Panda.” And now, as Universal prepares to officially launch its all-new DreamWorks Theatre with the inaugural show “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest,” we’ve received the welcome news that Mr. Ping will be making his way back to the legendary theme park in Hollywood.

Mr. Ping will be returning, according to a Universal Studios Hollywood representative. And not a moment too soon, as Po’s adoptive father and owner of the tasty noodle shop was a big hit with fans of the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise, who chatted and posed for photos with the charming, hilarious character in Universal Plaza.

“He’ll be here for summer,” confirmed Universal Creative’s Senior Director and Executive Producer Jon Corfino during a media tour last week, confirming that the character would return to his spot in Universal Plaza across the path from the all-new DreamWorks Theatre.

Corfino also noted that the existing meet-and-greet experience featuring Donkey from “Shrek” will be getting an overhaul as well to coincide with the opening of DreamWorks Theatre. “We’re making a new home for the Donkey experience [next door to the DreamWorks Theatre courtyard.”

DreamWorks Theatre’s “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” officially opens on Friday, June 15 at Universal Studios Hollywood.
