For those who prefer life in the fast lane, Aquatica San Antonio’s newest waterslide –Taumata Racer – will make its debut on March 10, kicking off spring break in South Texas.

“Taumata Racer will be one of the fastest waterslides in Texas, combining competitive racing with the adrenaline rush of speeding downhill head first,” said Aquatica Vice President Byron Surrett. “It’s a thrilling experience that families and friends can enjoy together and gives our guests another fun way to beat the Texas heat.”

A high-speed competitive mat ride, Taumata Racer features six riders racing down a staggeringly steep hill, head first. Positioned in six side-by-side lanes, riders will zoom around a 180-degree swooping turn, and in-and-out of a tunnel before racing down the 375-foot slide and across the finish line in under 10 seconds.

Named for a famous hill in New Zealand, Taumata is short for the 85-letter Maori word “Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu.” Roughly translated, this Guinness Book of World Records word means: “The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who traveled about, played his flute to his loved one.”
