PHOTOS: Disney hosts “Welcome to Wakanda” fashion show inspired by Marvel’s “Black Panther”

New York Fashion Week, the semi-annual celebration of all things couture, is taking place right now in New York City and Disney hosted a special “Welcome to Wakanda” show inspired by the fashion of “Black Panther.”

Designers who participated in the event were selected for their dedication to empowerment and individualism through fashion, and they created one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by different characters and themes from the upcoming Marvel movie.

“Black Panther” stars Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, and director Ryan Coogler were in attendance. Below, scroll through for a peek at the event and the looks created by top designers.

Designers included CHROMAT, Cushnie et Ochs, Fear of God, Ikiré Jones, Laquan Smith, Sophie Theallet, Tome, Brother Vellies, Douriean Fletcher and Josh Bennett.

Following the event, these one-of-a-kind looks will be auctioned off at Charity Buzz to benefit Save the Children.

“Black Panther” arrives in theaters on February 16.
