A favorite happy holiday tradition of mine (and many others) is driving around looking at Christmas light displays around the neighborhood. The diversity of designs is fun to compare. From humorous displays to an “explosion” of inflatable yard characters, this is almost as much fun as perusing home Halloween decorations, at least for me.
The hustle of the holiday and/or demands of work may not always allow time for this Christmas car ride to review all the holiday hoopla. Some areas, either sparsely populated or in the heart of the city, may not offer the spectacle of lights to enjoy. Fear not! There is still, at least for new, a way to enjoy this winter wonder: the Internet.
Gleefully gathered below are some of my favorite festive finds for December decorative illuminations.
Buzz Lightyear kicks of this amazing display that was featured on the ABC Television show “Great Christmas Light Fight:”
Trans Siberian Orchestra, a festive favorite for synchronized light displays enhances this electrifying experience. We don’t mean to drone on, but the aerial views are equally as marvelous as the music (“Wizards in Winter”).
The same holiday tune (“Wizards in Winter”) from TSO breathes life into this dazzling display from last year. 32,000 lights were used.
Decadent December dub-step drives this delightful December display of modern music mixed with a few familiar classic sound bytes.
A Wizarding winter wonderland awaits those who are fortunate enough to fly (or drive, if you happen to be a muggle) this Harry Potter inspired light show. The Hogwarts Express makes its rounds as part of this magical manifestation.
The Force is festive this time of year. Several spectacular shows of Christmas lights find inspiration from the Skywalker saga known as “Star Wars.” The dark side of the Force energizes this exciting extreme experience in holiday light displays. Darth Vader would be impressed.
“Uptown Funk” and Star Wars music are mashed up to make this home one with the force and the funk.
Star Wars scenes spill across the front of this home as familiar Force-related fanfare feeds a frenzy of festive flashing FX for this stellar display.
Christmas at the Cantina is the theme here. The Modal Nodes kick it up a notch for this award winning cool Yule light show.
Christmas comedy gets creative as these next two homes rely on the acapella amazement that is Straight No Chaser to set the tune to their tinsel-time twinkling treasures. The hilarious “Christmas Can-Can” is a perfect modern musical merrymaking tune to get into the holiday spirit.
A festively funny cover of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” treats Toto’s 80’s hit song “Africa” to a seasonal makeover.
Finally, first responders have the finale in this brilliant display of holiday light shows. “Carol of the Bells” is synced to the station’s lights. Fire trucks feed the frenzy, flashing their red lights along with the beat.
We’ve come to the end of our virtual drive around the web. It has been a pleasure stopping at these brilliant examples of holiday at home imagineering, filled with Christmas carols and dancing lights. Merry Christmas!
