You’ve worked hard to get those amazing Halloween decorations put up, and now you are ready for a well-deserved break. OR, perhaps you’re seeking a something to help put you in the spirit of the spooky season? Visiting the Overlook Lodge, a bar based on Stephen King’s “The Shining” would fit the bill.
Rustic in style and sporting hatchets on the walls, Cincinnati’s Overlook Lodge is the perfect place to attack that writer’s block (they even offer an adult beverage by that name) and enjoy the spirits at hand.
This Ohio movie inspired watering hole opened in 2015. Dedicated to providing an escape worthy experience, the concept behind Overlook Lodge is designed to be a magical transportation of sights and tastes, according to the mission statement on their website. Wonderfully crafted to resemble the infamous Overlook Hotel from featured in the Stanley Kubrick 1980 horror classic, “The Shining,” Overlook Lodge hosts events and a drink menu that definitely deliver an opportunity for immersion.
With drinks like “Mr. Torrance,” “Graveyard,” and “Cabin Fever” the theming is creepy and clever. Even the non-alcoholic refreshments rely on Kubrick’s horror film for inspiration. “Lucid Lemonade”, a mix of lemon juice, mint simple and club soda, or “Frostbite,” a blend of limeade and grape soda tempt the taste buds.
Events at Overlook Lodge compliment the horror film from which it takes it theme. Past experiences have included script readings of “the Sandlot,” viewings of “American Horror Story,” and the film “Zombeavers,” as well as a Hocus Pocus night with additional themed drinks. Their current promotion, “Overlook or Bust” focuses on the real world horror of breast cancer.
All work and no play makes for a dull day. A visit to the Overlook Lodge might just be what’s needed. Visiting the bar requires navigating to 6083 Montgomery Rd in Cincinnati Ohio (travel by Snow Cat optional). This unique libation station is open from 2pm to 2am.
