Fans channeling Yondu’s signature red mohawk from Guardians of the Galaxy gather for a group photo, all smiles amid vibrant party decor in an entertainment venue.

Think you’re a dedicated fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Well chances are you don’t quite hold a candle to the ten Marvel devotees who volunteered to have their hair dyed, straightened, and shaved into the famous red mohawk worn by Ravager captain Yondu– played deftly in both “Guardians of the Galaxy” films by actor Michael Rooker.

Rooker himself was on hand yesterday morning at Shorty’s Barber Shop in West Hollywood, California to oversee (and even briefly take up the clippers in) the ceremonial shaping of the Yondu ‘hawks in celebration of the release of Marvel and director James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” on home video.

WATCH – MICHAEL ROOKER INTERVIEW & HEAD-SHAVING FUN:

I spent the morning with Rooker at the event, discussing the evolution of his popular character, how he feels about such dedication in Marvel fans, and even his thoughts on the Yondu / Mary Poppins phenomenon.

“Nobody ever thought the line was gonna be what the line became. Gunn wrote the line and it came out to be funny on set. I had a great time doing that scene. The line became like the line in the first one, ‘We are Groot,’ one of those touchstone lines. I think ‘I’m Mary Poppins, y’all!’ became that for ‘Guardians Vol. 2’.”

“I embraced it. I just thought it was fun and beautiful. I’m a big ‘Mary Poppins’ fan from way back. I went to Disneyland with my family and I searched out Mary Poppins and got some photos with Mary Poppins. She even let me hold her umbrella. I became a twelve-year-old again. I was thrilled.”

Mary Poppins beams alongside a guest channeling Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy, complete with hat, sunglasses, and a playful red fin hairstyle as he strikes a fun pose for the camera at the park.

“She never broke character. I tried to get her to break character, and she never broke character. I was really impressed with the Disneyland Mary Poppins. She was real. But… as everyone knows… I’m Mary Poppins.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is available now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD, and Disney Movies Anywhere.
