Skadoosh! About a month ago, Universal Studios Hollywood announced that the “Shrek 4-D” attraction just outside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in the Upper Lot area would be closing down this August to make room for a new rotating DreamWorks Animation show inside the upcoming DreamWorks Theatre building.
What better time to introduce new DreamWorks characters into the park? Beginning this past weekend, Universal Studios Hollywood has been playing home to friends from the “Madagascar,” “Trolls,” and “Kung Fu Panda” franchises, joining the already-present “Shrek” characters– plus Puss in Boots, also making his first appearance in the park!

Princess Fiona, Shrek, Alex the Lion, King Julien, Penguin, Poppy, Branch, Po, Tigress, and the aforementioned Puss in Boots all make their way into Universal Plaza to pose with fans in front of colorful new backdrops representing the worlds of their respective movies. And there’s even a Toothless photo op from “How to Train Your Dragon.”
The DreamWorks Theatre isn’t scheduled to open until 2018, with “Kung Fu Panda” as its first featured attraction. But all of the above DreamWorks characters will be meeting and greeting with guests throughout the day all summer long this year at Universal Studios Hollywood.
