“Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins will co-write the sequel to her successful film

The success of DC Comics’ first critically and commercially successful film of its new cinematic universe, “Wonder Woman,” has been anything but a secret. The movie has now earned more that $275 million domestically and over $570 million worldwide.

That triumph has largely been credited to director Patty Jenkins, who took her first step into the superhero movie world and absolutely nailed it. A sequel to “Wonder Woman” is already in the works, but Jenkins has not yet been named as the director. We may be moving toward that being the case though, as DC Films’ co-chairman Geoff Johns said that he and Jenkins are currently writing the sequel.

“Patty and I are writing the treatment right now. The goal is to make another great Wonder Woman film,” Johns told Variety. “I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one.”

If Jenkins is working on the sequel already, and given the success of the first movie, it would stand to reason that she would be brought back to direct “Wonder Woman 2.” If that is the case, she will certainly command quite the pay day.

“Wonder Woman” is in theaters now.
