The Little Mermaid is getting the live-action TV musical treatment this fall on ABC.
The Wonderful World of Disney: The Little Mermaid Live will cast celebrities in the iconic roles from Disney’s 1989 animated film.
The two-hour special event will be the first time The Little Mermaid has gotten a live-action/animation hybrid reboot for the screen. The show will tell Ariel’s story from the film while blending in live musical performances from the movie’s hit soundtrack.
Disney did something similar for the stage last summer. The Little Mermaid In Concert saw celebrities such as Sara Bareilles and Rebel Wilson performing a stage version of the movie. Wilson, pictured below, played Ursula.
Casting announcements for the TV musical, which is set to air October 3, are expected soon.
