in Movies, Movies & TV

Helen Mirren is inhabiting a spooky new role. In the upcoming film “Winchester,” Mirren plays the real-life haunted house owner Sarah Winchester. Her 160-room mansion in San Jose, California, has long been a haunted tourist attraction.

The film’s directors, Michael and Peter Spierig, will offer up a scary story with a look inside the mansion, but they also want to dive into the deeper mystery of the haunted house.

In costume, Mirren bears a striking resemblance to the real Sarah Winchester. See the two photos below for comparison:

The only known portrait of Sarah Winchester, heir to the Winchester rifle fortune, and building of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California. The house was said to deliberately confusing so as to frustrate the ghosts of people killed by Winchester rifles, who Sarah feared were haunting her.

In the movie, a psychiatrist is sent to evaluate Sarah Winchester and quickly realizes that the hauntings may not be a figment of her imagination. The film is expected in 2018, but you can also take a tour of the frightening Winchester Mystery House if you dare.
