When Universal CityWalk opened in 1993 outside of Universal Studios Hollywood, it became one of the go-to destinations for both tourists and locals alike to walk, shop, dine, and of course see movies in a fun, upscale environment.
Now the Universal AMC Theatre & IMAX, located just across from the giant Hard Rock Cafe near CityWalk’s east entrance, has been completely overhauled in a beautiful nine-month renovation and rebranded as Universal Cinema.
The theater has always represented the state of the art when it comes to moviegoing, but now all 18 black-box auditoriums have been upgraded to high-tech Christie 4K RGB laser projection with Dolby Atmos sound– each house is equipped with approximately forty individual speakers.
And let’s not forget those cushy seats– both deluxe single and loveseat-style plush recliners have been installed in front of every screen. And those seats are reservable online. Choose your seats before you get to the theater. No fuss, no muss!
Before (or after) the movie, you can hang out in the new Director’s Lounge cocktail bar– an “upscale retreat” and full-scale bar incorporating imagery from the famous Universal Pictures globe logo and a very appealing (and very big) starburst chandelier.
And what’s a movie without snacks? The completely-redesigned AMC Marketplace offers guests an innovative self-service method of choosing and purchasing their favorite movie house treats, including “specialty popcorn, gourmet foods, real fruit smoothies and cafe style coffees.”
As a whole, the impressive new redesign at Universal Cinema makes for a welcoming modern take on going to the movies, and is sure to draw in the film-loving crowds visiting Hollywood and Universal CityWalk for years to come.
