Hurricane Matthew causes some theme parks to take measures while Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios remains open

in Uncategorized

Universal Orlando has still not indicated that any of its scheduled activities or park hours will be adjusted for the oncoming Hurricane Matthew. Even tonight’s event, Halloween Horror Nights, is still expected to operate as scheduled as of this moment. Universal posted this statement on its website this morning for  guests who are questioning if their vacation plans will be altered:

“Universal Orlando Resort is closely monitoring the weather, and at this time there are no changes to our operating hours.”

SeaWorld and Legoland are not as bold. SeaWorld announced yesterday that they would close today at 2pm. Discovery Cove will be closed early today as well, and SeaWorld’s Aquatica won’t even open it’s gates this morning. Tomorrow all three of SeaWorld Entertainment’s properties will remain bolted.

Legoland is taking a similar approach with its gates closing early today and shutting out guests tomorrow as well.

For Florida residents needing shelter during the heavy rains and wind expected to hit this afternoon, Rosen Hotels & Resorts in Orlando have extended a discount. Orlando Sentinel reports that these “distress rates” range from $55 to $105 and apply to those that have been evacuated from their homes due to the storm.

This is very misleading. Universal simply hasn’t commented yet at all on 10/6. The alert on the website is still time-stamped for 4pm 10/5. Park is open, but many outdoor facilities including HHN stages and decor have been dismantled or secured, suggesting changes may be announced soon. As parks are just now opening, meetings to discuss operational plans are likely taking place now or over the next few hours. This headline is very misleading to tweet before we know anything more.

Also, hotels are selling out fast. Our Local VisitOrlando organization is tracking occupancy.

Hhn and universal have closed due to storm it has been updated. I commented this in NSS article but I have heard and read some things that are quite disturbing… Please if you have tickets that need rescheduling guest services at all parks will help you but have patience! Don’t say something stupid like “why can’t it be open?” It’s not just your life that’s at stake if they are open BC of hurricane it’s the hundreds of employees too! Wdw and universal made the right decision for saftey for EVERYONE! And I hope everyone stays safe and patient! I think that’s what the world needs more of patient and hope!
