Just when you think you’ve got your iPhone all figured out, something new comes along. Apple has now released an entire store for iMessage apps. That’s right. Apps designed for iMessage. Texting with an iPhone. Little bits of written communication passed back and forth via cell signals. Now there are apps, games and stickers for this.
I’ll be honest. I never knew that my texting needed assistance. I certainly didn’t think it merited an entire store for the practice–that is until I found out about Disney Stickers. Stickers and iPhones…you may be asking, “What the whaaaa??” That was my thought exactly, and I had to look into it.
Disney Stickers are a series of digital “sticker packs” that can be purchased, downloaded and then attached to the iMessages you send out into cyberspace. If I didn’t say that this had me emotionally conflicted, I’d be lying. In fact, I’m a little surprised at how much I’m struggling with the release of silly stickers. As I look over these sticker packs for purchase I am telling myself that I can’t think of anything more stupid in my life. At the same time I can’t think of anything I want more in my life. In fact, what I can think of is a number of instances when this digital delight might have been just what I was missing.
Instances like when I texted my husband from the interstate at midnight to tell him that I forgot to fill the tank with gas…that might have gone over better if a Dory sticker had been attached. Then there was the time when my text to the bestie about her pity party could have benefited from a winking Elsa sticker. And it would have been great to send my son off to his first day of high school with a tiny Yoda sticker, letting him know that the Force was with him. Don’t pretend you don’t think that would help.
Each of these Disney sticker packs come with 21 stickers and is priced at $1.99. They can be downloaded through the Apple iMessage App Store on iOS 10, and there are quite a few to choose from like:
- Mickey & Friends
- Finding Dory
- The Lion King
- Cats and Dogs
- Beauty and the Beast
- Inside Out
- Star Wars
Apparently, there are more that will be launched throughout the year. Really? Must have. No, wait. Aaaaaaahh!
As a 39-year-old mom of three, this honestly has me twisted. Are these silly Disney-fied emoji equivalents necessary? No. Are they fun? Heck yeah! And I think I have to succumb to the urge to purchase because…reasons.
