When we learned about Mel Brooks’ new book, we became more excited than a team of horses learning of a visit from Frau Blucher. That’s right Young Frankenstein: A Mel Brooks Book: The Story of the Making of the Film is due out this October, just in time for Halloween!
Young Frankenstein, released in 1974, was an instant comedy classic that still holds up very well today. This is, in part, due to the dedication Brooks devoted to the project, insisting on filming in black and white (no offense) to remain true to the source material – Universal’s classic 1931 flilm: Frankenstein. The comedic genius of Brooks’ writing and acting skills of Gene Wilder, Terri Garr, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn and Gene Hackman brought the story of Victor Frankenstein’s grandson, Frederick Frankenstein and his monster making mayhem to hilarious life.
Young Frankenstein recently enjoyed a new jolt of life as a Broadway Musical (2007-2009) bringing further insight and laughter to the brilliant comedy. Young Frankenstein the Musical is still on tour around the country today (and is also being produced at various local theaters as well).
Now, well not now, now, but now later. . .later this year . . .October 18th to be exact, a new picture filled coffin coffee table book will be brought to life. Visit Entertainment Weekly for a sampling of photos and captions from the new tome.
