OTM had the privilege of meeting Hal and Nancy Miles at the recent Spooky Empire RETRO show in Orlando last weekend (4/1/16). It was a pure delight to discuss the passions this couple has for animation just before Hal took the stage for his Q/A.
Mr. Mile’s name may not be that well known, but his work is seen in dozens of feature films. He’s contributed his talents to movies like Terminator 2 Judgment Day, The Abyss, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Gremlins 2, Nightmare on Elm Street 4, The Blob, and many more. His talented work in animatronics (inspired by his friend and colleague Ray Harryhausen) was rarely credited (but a full list can easily be found on the IMDB website).
A big passion for the Miles’ is animation. Together, after 30 year of collecting and curating, they have organized a collection of over 130 pieces of animation art to from a travelling exhibit: Journey Into Imagination: 100 Years of Animation from Around the World.
Included in the exhibit are various forms of animation from the hand drawn artwork of the genre’s infancy to digital delights of today. The exhibit is currently at home in the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala through April 10th.
For a full list of locations (or to host the exhibit) visit the website of Landau Travelling Exhibit tour management.
