FIRST LOOK: Neil Patrick Harris looks perfect as Count Olaf in “A Series of Unfortunate Events”

2014 brought the announcement that none other than Neil Patrick Harris would be taking up the sinister role of Count Olaf in the Netflix revival of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Now, we finally have an up-close look at the incredible makeup job for the character — and it’s absolutely perfect.

First off, let’s look at the two side-by-side:

On the left, a sharply dressed man stands, while on the right, an illustrated Count Olaf—complete with his signature villainous look and flock of birds—channels A Series of Unfortunate Events. The scene evokes the striking split-screen style seen in Universal Studios’ eerie stage shows featuring Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf.

Seriously, I’m freaking out…and fans of the books should be too. Even Jim Carrey’s version didn’t look this astoundingly accurate.

Count Olaf, with his signature messy hair and somber expression, strolls through the park in characteristically tattered clothes, capturing the mysterious and mischievous vibe seen in Neil Patrick Harris’s performance from A Series of Unfortunate Events.
