Disney has officially begun casting for “High School Musical 4”, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The last installment in the hugely successful franchise was released back in 2006 and it’s been a decade since the first movie debuted on Disney Channel and made stars out of Zach Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.

Now Disney Channel has begun searching for a fresh cast for a new group of students attending East High and crosstown rivals West High Knights.

Peter Barsocchini, who wrote the first three movies, is returning to co-write the latest movie along with Dan Berendsen. Jeffrey Hornaday (Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie, Teen Beach 2) is attached to direct and choreograph.

With a nationwide casting search now underway, Disney is encouraging those wishing to find out more about future open casting call opportunities to visit their site for the latest news.

Wonder if it’ll still work now that we HAVE movie musicals back again, and we don’t have a musical-illiterate generation of early-00’s teens who literally thought Troy and Gabriella invented singing in movies.
(When we all know it was Buffy who invented it! 😉 )

Educated vocalist. Have taken vocal lessons for over 10 years. Have sang the national anthem at Celtics games, and have performed in multiple musical theater productions.
