Today “Toy Story of Terror” comes home on Blu-ray, bringing with it some hilarious new bonus features while revisiting some of Pixar’s “Toy Story” best.

Just in time for the upcoming Halloween season, this high-def home video release of “Toy Story of Terror” is sure to get watched and re-watched each year, a new staple for somewhat spooky fun. While its first half contains every horror movie cliche (on purpose), its second half offers up the heart Pixar is known for – especially with the familiar “Toy Story” faces. It’s an all-around excellent adventure.

On Blu-ray, “Toy Story of Terror” looks and sounds great – better than seen on network TV last year. Without commercial interruption, this 21 1/2-minute special flies by in the best way. And it’s even more fun to watch it again with the new commentary track turned on, learning movie references and trivia tidbits throughout.

As per so many Pixar releases, this one contains a peek behind the scenes in the “Team of Specialists” extra showing how the program got made. It’s fascinating and humorous, as always. But the best bonuses on this Blu-ray are the “vintage toy commercials” for new toys introduced in “Toy Story of Terror,” offered in the style of old TV ads. They’re simply perfect, especially when stitched into the special itself at the appropriate commercial breaks. Children of the ’80s will love it as Combat Carl breaks into a “G.I. Joe” style PSA.

The inclusion of past “Toy Story Toons” Hawaiian Vacation, Partysaurus Rex, and (my personal favorite) Small Fry is a nice touch as well.

For fans of “Toy Story” and/or Halloween, this one’s a must own.

“Toy Story of Terror” is available today via Amazon and at most major retailers.
