This week Universal Orlando will celebrate the official grand opening of the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Among its newest features added is a winding lazy river along with a big new pool.
The lazy river matches the rest of the hotel’s pools in decor, simple with tiled sides. But it winds surprisingly long, taking around 5-7 minutes to float through, surrounded by foliage and many opportunities to get splashed, from water cannons, spouts, and rocky waterfalls.

It may not match the quality of lazy rivers at big water parks, but for a hotel amenity it’s a great addition. The only downside is that the inner tubes aren’t free to use, available to rent for a fee. But they’re not required either.
The new pool is quite huge, offering plenty of room to swim or simply wade in its shallower areas. It has a zero entry side for easy access as well as an abundance of lounge chairs tucked away on sand for a beach-y feel.
The rest of the new area that hugs the hotel’s food court has outdoor seating for dining as well as a couple of fire pits to relax by.
Check back later this week for a final look at the fully completed Cabana Bay Beach Resort.
