The Great Horror Campout expands nationwide for 2014, bringing overnight terrors to summertime event

For the second year The Great Horror Campout is headed to Los Angeles this summer, but this time the eerie event is expanding across the United States.

Beginning in Los Angeles on June 6th, 2014 and ending up in San Bernardino, CA on August 23, this “choose your own adventure” experience is set to bring even more frights overnight.

“People want engagement and complete immersion in their experiences…and Great Horror Campout is the definition of that. The night is packed with layer upon layer of active content. The days of spectator sport haunted attractions and events are over and we couldn’t be more excited about that,” states Ten Thirty One Productions Founder, Melissa Carbone.

The premise of the Great Horror Campout is taking the haunted attraction concept and stretching it over the course of an entire night, as campers try to survive the screams for 12 hours (8pm to 8am). A “Chicken Zone” allows campers to watch horror movies and roast marshmallows, while “High Startle” zones adds more excitement around the Bonfire or in the Mess Hall.

Courtesy of a $2 million investment from “Shark Tank” star and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, this year’s Great Horror Campout will feature even more scares to lose sleep over, with more live actors, fog and scent effects, water spray and splash, narrow tunnels, crouch spaces, and other surprises.

The most extreme part is dubbed the “Hell Hunt,” an interactive experience putting campers in the face of danger while retrieving items. The Hell Hunt will include bathing in the blood, partaking in a sacrificial voodoo ritual, and digging through road kill while running the risk of being kidnapped, caged or trunked.

The Great Horror Campout is a hands-on experience in which campers may be forcibly handled, moved, bound, hooded, chained and subjected to simulated torture by a cast of actors. At any time campers can end the madness by yelling the safety phrase: “I WANT MY MOMMY!”
