Hoards of the undead will soon descend upon Tampa as The Walking Dead Escape comes to Florida this weekend.
On Saturday, May 10, 2014, The Walking Dead Escape will unleash zombie mayhem throughout the USF Sun Dome, just down the road from Busch Gardens Tampa. Described as an “immersive zombie run experience,” The Walking Dead Escape sends thousands of fans of the comic book and TV series “The Walking Dead” through a grueling untimed obstacle course lined with walkers with the goal of making it through without being touched.
UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, The Walking Dead Escape dates in the southeastern United States have been postponed, including dates in Miami (moved to October 25), Tampa, Jacksonville and New Orleans. The event will not be taking place on Saturday in Tampa.
Tickets are available to become a survivor, walker, or spectator. They’re also currently looking for volunteers to help staff the event, which includes a free shirt, behind-the-scenes access, and after party admission.
The Walking Dead Escape began back in 2012 at San Diego Comic-Con where I successfully evaded the grasp of walkers. I didn’t fare as well in 2013 when I returned and was “infected,” only to be put out of my inevitable misery at the end.
This time the invasion hits closer to home and I will be filming my experience in Tampa just as I did in San Diego over the past two years, as seen below.

With the Tampa location being an indoor arena, it should prove to be an even more intense experience.
The Walking Dead Escape continues its tour in several locations throughout the country, including Atlanta – the home of “The Walking Dead” – at the end of this month. Tour dates, tickets, and more information are available at TheWalkingDeadEscape.com.
Check back here next week for a recap of the Tampa insanity.
