More Marvel is on the way to Disneyland this Fall. When “Thor: The Dark World” hits theaters on November 8, Disneyland park guests will have a chance to visit Asgard and meet Thor himself, announced today on the Disney Parks Blog.
Update: Thor will begin meeting at Disneyland on November 1.
Disney has revealed the story behind the meet-and-greet:
Astrophysicist Jane Foster, who established a special relationship with Thor, has been studying the “Bifrost,” a cosmic bridge that allows Thor to travel between the Nine Realms, including Earth. She has determined that the Bifrost is set to open again in Southern California and pinpointed the precise location as Innoventions at Disneyland park.
Inside Innoventions, Foster and her team are preparing for the opening of the Bifrost with the installation of Thor: Treasures of Asgard, a collection of objects brought to Earth straight from Asgard. After viewing the exhibit, you’ll be invited to enter a chamber where the Bifrost will transport you to Asgard for an audience with Thor himself!
It’s not yet clear specifically when or where Thor will appear in the park, but don’t count on seeing his fan favorite brother there with him. “Meeting Loki would be pretty awesome (it was certainly cool to see Tom Hiddleston make an appearance at the D23 Expo)! I’m afraid there are no plans at this time, though, to bring Loki to the park,” wrote Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment, in response to a comment on the blog.
Marvel first appeared at Disneyland with Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries at Innoventions featuring Tony Stark’s Hall of Armor, but Thor will be the first time Disneyland guests will ever have a chance to meet a Marvel character in person in the park.
Captain America also recently made his meet-and-greet debut at the D23 Expo, soon to be appearing in the Marvel Avengers Academy on the reimagined Disney Magic cruise ship
