But that’s okay for Warner, since Batman and Superman never showed up at Six Flags anyway, and Legendary is in no danger of rebooting a Green Lantern or Wonder Woman movie any time soon.
We’ve never seen Superman in the Six Flags Parks. Only Batman & Robin, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash. They are in their cartoon style comic book outfits. Perhaps Bugs Bunny and the gang will stay with Six Flags while the DC Comics group heads to Universal?
There may be alot of naysayers out there about DC Comics characters coming to IoA, but I’d like to remind some of you that there was serious consideration of having a Batman-themed area of IoA in the past with a Batman lagoon stunt show. You can find pictures of the concept art online (a folder of which was sold on ebay).
Everybody knows that Six Flags has the rights, but why would Universal have put concept development time and money into something if they didn’t have the fiscal and legal means of obtaining it? Six Flags could easily de-theme/retheme DC stuff in their parks as they are minimally themed. I’m pretty sure Universal could afford to obtain DC Comics rights for park use with the boatload Disney would give them to get back east coast use of the Marvel characters.
I’m not saying this with 100% certainty, but it seems the easiest way for Universal to repurpose Marvel Super Hero Island.
I’m not sure when Legendary has the Batman and Superman films it does mean Universal will have the DC license that is now used at many theme parks all over the world. I hope they sell the license for Marvel to Disney for a hefty price and they would acquire the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit licenses. Dream with me:
The whole of Marvel Island would become Middle Earth.
The whole Hulk coaster will be enclosed en the outside will look like a huge mountain rig. When you enter from the coaster side you will be greeted by the 2 huge statues carved out of the mountain, The Argonath. When you come out of the cave like entrance you are transported to beautiful Rivendell that is on the mountain side. This is a self-service restaurant with small carts that sell food and drink and many places to sit but it’s also a walk-around attraction with lots to see.
To the side is the entrance to the former Hulk coaster. It now is called Escape from Saroman and you enter the que that shows you how Orks are born from the mud and Saruman is building its army. The loading platform resembles the top of his tower where Gandalf was held captive. The coaster is the great eagle and you fly trough the caves and lave streams. At the breakpoint you enter the mines of Moria and that is where you end and how the exit queue is themed.
In front of you is Hobbiton, the village of the hobbit’s. We are there during the Bilbo birthday party and the party field is extended into the lake to give it enough room. There are 2 walktrough attractions, in one you enter a home of the Hobbits Hobbit size. The other one you are wizard size.
The Siderman ride is upgraded and doubled in size to put another level on top of the current building. The outside is impressive looking and resembles Minas Tirith. The queue is themed like the inside of the city and the ride is an evolution on the Spideman ride. You start with 12 riders in a separate small room. The room is scanned by a Kinect like device that knows how many adults and children are in the party. Gandalf appears in person (like Dumbledore does in the queue for the Potter ride) with the right video welcoming the Fellowship of x number of humans and Hobbits. The ring is emerged from mount doom once again and this fellowship needs to go on a journey to retrieve it. After we enter the ride vehicle we leave the city of Minas Titith. The journey will take you to many and sometimes characters will ask you where to go to, point left to go to X or point right to go Y. Every screen as many different versions of the scene. One scene will kick you left or right by an Olifant. The story is multi branched and takes it times at point to just let you enjoy the beauty of Middle Earth and after that kicking it up a notch. It’ll take 20 minutes and is an different experience every time.
The drop tower will be remade into a single tower to resemble the battle of Sarumon and Gandalf. The seats on the tower will be standing places and the structure on the shoot arm can put you on your back, face down and turn around.
On the waterfront will be 3 large trees resembling Mallorn where we find a tree house style attraction. At the end of the land we cross over the dwarf barrel ride adventure that we will see in the upcoming Hobbit movies.
(And completely off the subject:
WHY…is it ALWAYS….a movie-pageant DARK RIDE???????
Why won’t fans just come straight out and admit, they can’t think of anything else? Good thing the companies aren’t allowed to use the ideas anyway.) 😉
It’s my understanding that Disney doesn’t have the rights to use Marvel characters east of the Mississippi as Universal will continue to own them for all parks on the East Coast of the US, and that this does not change with Disney owning Marvel rights – read this article for clarification – is very well researched: http://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201307/3558/
For the last time, UNIVERSAL IS NOT GETTING RID OF MARVEL. EVER. They have the rights in perpetuity. Even Tom Williams made that clear at the Transformers opening.
I really don’t why this is so hard for some people to grasp.
So you are saying the Marvel license is forced on them and they never ever are going to let it go, not even for say 1 billion $ from Di$ney?
Nothing is forever, it’s ignorant to think that.

Our local Six Flags has both a Batman and Superman roller coaster. Or were you being sarcastic?

This in no way, shape or form opens the door to DC in Universal parks.

Forget that, I want Godzilla vs King Kong

is there a timeline on when Universal HAS to get rid of Marvel? Or do they at all, and continue to pay disney royalties?

You list Watchmen as being up for grabs with Universal Parks and Resorts but that’s DC Comics and is on the same unusable page as Batman.
Ricky Brigante
Thanks. I updated the post. I doubt Universal would want to do anything with Watchmen anyway.

Will the Hangover ride start at the end and go backwards? Then when it’s over, it takes you a while to remember what happened.

I want to see a Transformers ride themed to Pacific Rim.
