‘Frozen’ teaser trailer and images give first look at new Walt Disney Animation Studios fairy tale, introducing Princess Anna

Walt Disney Animation Studios has revealed a first look at its upcoming film “Frozen” with a new teaser trailer and set of images. The trailer was revealed on Weather.com, an unusual tie-in to the movie’s climate-related title and setting.

“Frozen” introduces a new Disney Princess, Anna, in a story based on Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Snow Queen” – but the teaser video features only Sven and Olaf, a snowman and reindeer, the film’s comic relief. Likewise, the teaser only just barely teases the film, revealing nothing of its main characters or plot, instead simply showcasing its sidekicks.

(Not to be confused with Ole and Sven from that famous “Swedish Visitors” episode of “The Flintstones”…)

Since the trailer doesn’t offer any hint of the film’s story, here is a summary of the plot of “Frozen”, along with some newly-released character images:

When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell), a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, an amazing and comedic snowman named Olaf, Everest-like conditions and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

“Frozen” is a 3D computer animated follow-up for Walt Disney Animation Studios previous two highly successful films, 2010’s “Tangled” and this year’s “Wreck-It Ralph.”

“Frozen” will slide its way into theaters on November 27th, 2013.

  1. This is single handedly the most disappointing teaser I have ever seen in my life. Maybe I am just a spoiled 90’s kid who was given teaser trailers that actually teased about the plot (shocking), but this literally just screams “we are resorting to the humor of the Ice Age films, aren’t you excited to see Disney try this?” and my answer is no.

They could have even slapped together a cool cut up of a sequence of Anna walking up a flight of stairs in her sister’s ice castle and when they are about to reveal her sister…. BAM title card. Done, people get interested, people get excited and it has to do with your plot.

If I was an normal non-internet researching individual who was seeing this advertisement for the first time I’d be inclined to believe this movie is only about Snowmen and Reindeer…. which we all know it isn’t. ::sigh:: Please Disney, put out a better teaser trailer soon or at least put one out when you have clips that actually resemble a sliver of the plot that is much more interesting than this.

Ice age. That was my exact reaction. Not happy with the teaser!

See the Japanese trailer on Youtube. It is full and it is pretty awesome…

  2. Horn

Some surprisingly funny stuff in this teaser for how uninspired the setup is, but the film itself is starting to look like a fast-tracked cousin of Tangled on a budget.

  3. bigyanks

already looks better than planes. I think the teaser seems more of a “short” along the lines of those Disney Fairies that air on the Disney channel.

  4. Brian Fleming

I agree that this is a highly disappointing TEASER. I agree, a little too ICE AGE. I have heard nothing but great things about this film–JIM HILL has said this could do for WDA what LION KING/BEAST did in the last renaissance. This just looks foolish–esp. since the press releases have referred to the “mystical snowman”–what is mystical about this scene.

That said, I trust DISNEY, and I sort of remember the teaser for TANGLED being less than impressive, but turned out to be fantastic. So I will keep my judgement in perspective, and hope for a better full TRAILER coming soon.

  5. Jeffrey Hernandez

I thought it was cute and funny. Look, I don’t think the filmmakers have any say on how their film is marketed. Given how traditional marketing for films involving princesses in the plot is somehow kryptonite for boys, I think they’re just trying to get small children, specifically boys, to say “Mommy, take me to see this!” Unfortunate marketing, but if the film is good who cares? Mickey’s gotta eat.

I really miss the old 2D animations.. Rapunzel for example looks like a rubber doll! Her eyes are way too big. I think Cinderella for example is so much more beautiful, her eyes are more realistic. The colors, the sets, the movements, the characters, everything has so much more class. The 3D movies nowadays seem to avoid any form of true Disney romance or beauty. When something emotional is about to happen, they ruin it with an Ice Age-like slapstick scene.
I’m afraid that the incredible art form of 2D hand drawn animation is disappearing. 🙁

    1. Ellie

It’s animation so I don’t really understand why you’re judging it based on realism? Cinderella may be beautiful, but the animation advances used in Tangled allowed the animators to give Rapunzel a very wide range of beautiful emotions throughout the film. (And perhaps you should rewatch Tangled. That film was gorgeous and it had plenty of Disney romance and beauty.)

  7. Claudia

I agree with what has been said before: It looks like short, a short “short”. It was funny, I thought, but I would had liked to see a bit more of Anna. Guess we will have to wait for the official trailer.

  8. ^ You mean you would have liked to see ANY of Anna at ALL. This is definitely a lame teaser, but that doesn’t portend a lame movie. I think the snowman character is kind of hideous and annoying, but I admit Ray seemed kind of annoying in the first PatF trailer (and he turned out to be anything but). Mostly I still just wish this were 2D animated. (That still goes for Rapunzel too, actually.)

  9. CB

The animation seems to be fairly poor

  10. Vince

Disappointing. I long for the days when Disney Animation Studios made real classics. You would expect teasers to put a film’s best foot forward. If this is the best Disney is lowering the bar for the animation industry.

  11. Chaz

I thought we all learned from Tangled exactly how big the gap can be between the quality of the trailer and the quality of the movie.

    Just a thought.

  12. I didn’t like the trailers for Tangled and Wreck-it-Ralph, but I loved the movies. Disney hasn’t disappointed me in a while, so I’m sure the story will build up with more trailers.
Oh, and how come in those two pictures, Anna is a blonde in one picture and a brunette in the second?

    1. Chaz

I think she’s strawberry blonde in both.

  13. ANDREW

Guys after sitting in Monsters University and seeing every little kid bust up laughing at this I realize this trailer hit the nail on the head! We’re adults and expect a majestic trailer, but kids want to laugh! Bravo Disney!
