  1. Great review! I can’t wait to see it next week. We’ve been watching all the old Muppet movies in anticipation, and it’s been AGES since I’ve seen those first few. What a thrill to go through them all again, and so exciting that there’s a new one coming right up.

For the record, by way of correction, the most recent Muppet film was actually called Muppets FROM Space.

Thanks for the correction. Noted and fixed. Enjoy the movie. 🙂

I must be in that focus group, as I’d be more willing to watch the movie if Jason Segel wasn’t in it.

Who cares?! Don’t hate. Go see the movie anyway!

It’s the only way to show how much we all love and care about the Muppets and that we want to see more of them in the future.

Agreed. Segel or not, the Muppets are the stars of this film and deserve the support.

It’s still too big a price to pay just to get The Muppet Movie on Blu-ray (and maybe Show Seasons 4 & 5 on disk).
Too many “Rocky & Bullwinkle Movie” flashbacks, never mind Country Bears.

This movie was absolutely AMAZING! I actually just got home from seeing it, and I have a few thoughts to share.

You totally nailed your review, Ricky. It is exactly what I was thinking as I watched. I really enjoyed all of the music along the way (although “Me Party” was VERY odd and out of place in my opinion.) “Man or Muppet?” and “Pictures in My Head” (the latter in particular) were actually quite tear-jerking for me. Very strong emotions really carried the film, despite the hilarious antics of the Muppets we know and love.

I really didn’t enjoy the “Moopets” storyline, though. It really didn’t do much besides make the problem seem worse, and they didn’t do a very good job of that, in my opinion. It could have been cut completely and it wouldn’t have made a difference. Likewise, What I remember of the villan wasn’t that outstanding, besisdes the “maniacal laugh” bit, which even that got old, as it did happen many times during the movie.

As for the good characters, I think Walter was a really interesting character to watch, and his excitement was very funny, even if the “saves the day” thing was a bit predictable. But hey, it’s the Muppets: you’ve got to love it! The main human actors (Jason Segel and Amy Adams)were pretty good. Their singing is all that really sticks out to me now, but nevertheless, both are very talented.

The theater in which I saw the movie was VERY enthusiastic. And this is coming from someone who has been to a Harry Potter midnight showing. Cheering, clapping, laughter, even a few tears were shared by everyone. And I mean EVERYONE. Young children, teens, parents, grandparents: all types of people. I was sitting next to one woman in particular, who was laughing so hard during the chickens singing Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” that it was almost funnier than the movie. Wow. It also shocked me to see how crowded the theater was. We actually had to fill in every seat to accomodate everyone. It almost felt like we were in Muppet*Vision 3D, minus the sweaty crowds and long lines. (“To accomodate all of our guests, please continue all the way to the end of your row, filling in all availible seating.” Good times.) Every one there really enjoyed the film, and the Toy Story Toon. (I never saw Cars 2 in theaters, so this was the first that I saw. I’m looking foward to many more.

Anyway, a particular moment that stood out for mw was when all of the Muppets came out on stage and sang “The Rainbow Connection”. I sat there with my friend, singing every word by heart, grinning and crying at the same time. It was such a beautiful thing. Overall, it was great to see so many people enjoying the Muppets.

    SPOILER ALERT BELOW:

I just saw it as well. I loved it!!! I agree that the Me Party song was really strange and out of place. I think it would have been really nice if Mary and Miss Piggy wouldve had an angry song about men. It would fit Piggy’s personality and showed a edgier side of that character of Mary. Oh well!!! Pictures in my Head made me cry…Man or Muppet made me laugh…esp when Jim Parsons showed up as Walters “man”!!! Also something that is not mentioned much in reviews was the 80’s Robot that resembled Wall-E!!! He was HILARIOUS!!!! The Barbershop Quartet and Beaker coming up with the ax in his hand had the entire theater laughing. I went on Sunday at 1:30 and the theater was packed. I wonder if there is any chance that this movie can begin a new movement to get the Muppets back on TV and in the parks in a bigger way.
