Very interesting indeed. I had no idea they were going to make these changes. It’s great they can do it without the whole attraction going down for a refurb. Can’t wait to see the end results.
Ricky… do you think they are really looking to replace the original hitchhiking ghosts? Specifically the way they ride in the doombuggy on the way out? All the enhancements look cool, and sometimes, new state of the art effects can be impressive, but I really think this would be awful if the replaced that part of the ride. It is so unique and as “old-school” as it may be, there is still nothing like that experience of feeling like that ghost is right there in the car with you. My kids love it, and I’ve loved it ever since I was a kid too. Sometimes you just shouldn’t mess with perfection. Now, if they can pull off the same type of effect with better movement of the characters using projections… well, then great. But from what I know about how the original effect was done, I just don’t see how this is possible.
They are definitely going to replace and/or enhance them. But with what? Not sure yet. It may be projections but that’s not guaranteed. We may be surprised by better animatronics. We’ll find out soon enough. I love the classics but Disney has done an amazing job with “plussing” the Mansion so far, so I give them the benefit of the doubt.

Hoping they don’t change this.
