Today Disney announced that the popular California Food & Wine Festivals will not take place in 2011 or 2012 at the Disneyland Resort as a result of the ongoing expansion at the Disney California Adventure park.

On the Disney Parks Blog, “significant logistical challenges around scheduling the hundreds of festival offerings” was given as the reason for the event’s cancellation.

A major part of the construction work that will begin soon includes a complete overhaul of the theme park’s entry plaza as and hub area, which was home to the Food and Wine Festival’s main stage. Along with the announcement, Disney released a new rendering of the updated area:

Guests explore the bustling, retro-inspired streets of Disney California Adventure, surrounded by themed shops, gleaming classic cars, a charming red trolley, and a colorful floral roundabout. The vibrant energy sets the stage for the California Food & Wine Festival within this dynamic theme park expansion.

The expansion of the Disney California Adventure theme park is scheduled to be completed in 2012 with the opening of Cars Land.
