More new details surrounding the upcoming “reimagining” of Disney’s Star Tours attraction were revealed today during the Disney Collector Panel at Star Wars Celebration V.
Just yesterday, Disney Parks unveiled a short queue video that will be part of Star Tours 2, showing possible new destinations for the attraction. Today’s presentation offered a further look at the new Starspeeder 1000, the vehicle that Star Tours guests will board for their intergalactic trips through the Star Wars universe.
Disney product developers Brad Schoeneberg and Cody Hampton along with graphic designer Quynh Kimball revealed that when Star Tours 2 opens in 2011 as a prequel to the original Star Tours attraction, the “Star Tours” company may not be the only one offering travel through space. Designs for several variations on the ride’s famous Starspeeder vehicle were shown:
These designs are actually for 1/64 scale die-cast vehicles that will be released when the attraction reopens next year, the first time the Starspeeder will be available in this smaller form.
In talking about the Starspeeder 1000 “preview vehicle” that was released for Star Wars Celebration V, Schoeneberg also mentioned the new voice heard in the toy is of a new “spokes-droid” that will be featured in the attraction. One fan noted that the voice sounds a bit like Carrie Fisher, though that could not be confirmed (nor denied).
Once sold out of its limited edition run, the Starspeeder 1000 will never be made in this form again.
In addition, a new Star Tours Starspeeder 1000 play set will be sold and will be able to hold standard Hasbro or Kenner size figures, including all your favorite Star Wars toys from the past and present:

Unfortunately, the Star Tours shirt Schoeneberg was wearing will not be for sale, as it was an Industrial Light and Magic design for a select group who have been working on the attraction:
