Flashback: Betty White becomes Disney Legend at the D23 Expo

in Disney, Events, Television

With so much Internet buzz surrounding actress Betty White’s upcoming appearance as host of “Saturday Night Live,” I thought this would be the perfect time to share previously-unreleased video I shot of her at the D23 Expo in September, 2009.

Betty White, of course, is well known for countless television roles including her portrayal of Rose on “The Golden Girls.” But lately all the talk has been around a Facebook-fueled initiative in which more than 500,000 fans agreed that White should host “Saturday Night Live.” In the end, their wish became NBC’s command and White will host the weekly comedy show this coming Saturday.

But turning back to Sept. 9, 2009, day one of Disney’s inaugural D23 Expo in Anaheim, Calif., Betty White was honored in the company’s annual Disney Legends ceremony. Her “Golden Girls” co-stars, Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty, and Rue McLanahan, were also honored with awards (though McLanahan could not be in attendance at the ceremony and Getty’s and Arthur’s awards were given posthumously).

The event was hosted by Tom Bergeron, (“Dancing with the Stars”, “America’s Funniest Home Videos”), who delivered an extensive bio before each honoree took the stage. But as you’ll see in this video, White seemed to be too eager to get on stage to even wait for that:

Don’t miss Betty White hosting “Saturday Night Live” on NBC on Saturday, May 8, 2010.
