In case you aren’t familiar with Academy Travel a few of the reasons we recommend them and why this might be the perfect opportunity for a Disney fan like you include:
Academy Travel is an Earmarked Diamond Agency
Why is it beneficial to work for an Earmarked Diamond Agency? Theoretically, any travel agency can help you travel to a Disney destination, but if your dream is to book Disney Vacations you need to become an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, which means you’ve “earned your ears” and completed the College of Disney Knowledge Program.
Let that sink in for a moment, College of Disney Knowledge Program….that is my kind of college.
Next, you will want to work with a Disney Earmarked Agency. This is crucial as Disney is very selective in which agencies can become Earmarked and by extension guests looking to plan a vacation to a Disney destination will naturally gravitate to those agencies who are the most well informed and able to provide the best service. Can you imagine with all of the changes which have occurred with Disney Parks and Cruises recently booking a trip with an agency that only knows the parks from a trip a few years ago? In today’s travel environment that type of agency can’t effectively serve its clients.
Now is the part that separates Academy Travel from everyone else – being a Diamond Agency. Among the Earmarked agencies Disney has grouped them into 5 levels which are: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Bronze is the easiest level to qualify into and then it becomes progressively more difficult up to the Diamond level. As the world’s largest agency for both Walt Disney World vacation and Universal Orlando (proving you aren’t limited to only booking trips to Disney) Academy Travel is 1 of only 3 Diamond level agencies.
It sounds cheesy, but wait there is more! Agents that are affiliated with a Diamond Earmarked agency have the opportunity to travel to the various Disney Destinations up to 6 times per year; no other Earmarked levels are permitted to offer that perk to their agents.
How Do Travel Agents Get Paid?
Travel agents get paid by commissions from their suppliers. In the case of Disney not only is this income commission provided to the agent without being passed thru to the guest (i.e. price should never be a concern when guests book with reputable agencies) but the commission paid to the agency increases thru each agency level. This means both more money for you as the agent and more resources for better training.
Many traditional agencies might split their smaller commissions 50/50 or 60/40 with the agent. Agents with Academy Travel have the opportunity to earn up to 90% commission. While commission rates vary based on many factors you can rest assured knowing you have the opportunity to both earn a large percentage of the total commission AND work for an agency earning the highest commissions from Disney and other top destinations.
Do I Need Prior Experience?
No prior experience required, but if you are an experienced agent we invite you to make the switch to Academy Travel as well. Some key traits of a successful agent are a passion for Disney and a willingness to learn.
Walt Disney summed it up best when he said “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”
