Mickey’s Philharmagic is closing at one Disney park, effective today.

Since its debut in 2003, Mickey’s PhilharMagic has been a staple of Disney parks worldwide, blending 3D animation, in-theater effects, and classic Disney music into a lighthearted concert led by Donald Duck. Over the course of roughly 12 minutes, Donald travels through musical sequences inspired by the likes of The Little Mermaid (1989), Peter Pan (1953), Aladdin (1992), and Fantasia (1940).

While it originally opened at Magic Kingdom, where it replaced Legend of The Lion King, the show has since branched out to Hong Kong Disneyland (2005), Tokyo Disneyland (2011), Disneyland Paris (2018), and Disney California Adventure (2019).

In more recent years, the experience was updated to include a new Coco (2017) segment featuring Miguel and music from the Pixar film, expanding the show’s lineup and modernizing its appeal for younger generations of parkgoers.

Some have theorized that the attraction could eventually be phased out for newer, more exciting additions to Disney’s theme parks – or, in the case of Disney California Adventure, potentially provide an avenue for Muppet*Vision 3D to return (we can dream, right?)

For now, however, the show seems to be going strong – even if it’s officially closed at one park as of today.

Disney Park Kicks Off Mickey’s Philharmagic Closure

At Tokyo Disneyland, Mickey’s PhilharMagic closed today, February 20, and will remain unavailable through March 23, resulting in a shutdown lasting just over one month.

The park has not announced major changes to the attraction during this period, framing the closure as part of routine operational scheduling rather than a permanent or long-term removal.

Temporary closures of attractions are not uncommon at Disney parks. Tokyo Disney Resort, in particular, has a rigorous refurbishment schedule, with attractions routinely closing for both long and short maintenance periods.

In addition to Mickey’s Philharmagic, the list of attractions currently out of action at Tokyo Disney Resort includes Dumbo the Flying Elephant (closed until July 31) and Swiss Family Treehouse (closed indefinitely since 2022) at Tokyo Disneyland, and Mermaid Lagoon Theater (closed indefinitely since 2020), Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull (closed indefinitely since August 2025), and the DisneySea Electric Railway (closed until March 10) at Tokyo DisneySea.

Raging Spirits is also currently closed at Tokyo DisneySea, with its maintenance period set to end today, February 20.

Several entertainment options are also paused today. Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights, Sky Full of Colors, and the nighttime projections for the ongoing Minnie’s Funderland event are all unavailable and will instead return to regularly scheduled performances from tomorrow (February 21).

Fortunately, there’s still plenty to enjoy at the park. While Tokyo Disneyland is home to plenty of Disneyland and Disney World dupes – such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, “it’s a small world,” and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin – it also boasts more unique attractions, including Pooh’s Honey Hunt, The Happy Ride with Baymax (which has spawned its own cult of singing and dancing fans), and Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast.

The park also retains some of the details and attractions eliminated from Disney’s domestic parks. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean still features the “we wants the redhead” scene, while Splash Mountain is still going strong (even if some guests think its days are numbered).

It’s worth noting that Tokyo Disneyland is set to close earlier than usual this evening. While a typical park day runs until 9 p.m., Tokyo Disney Resort’s original theme park will instead close to guests at 6.30 p.m. Tokyo DisneySea will remain open until 9 p.m.
