As COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are on the rise again, Los Angeles County in California is reinstating its indoor mask mandate. But what does that mean for Universal Studios Hollywood, located in LA County? Here is what we know so far.

A new update from LA County states that, starting at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, face masks will be required at all indoor locations in the county, regardless of vaccination status. The county reported 1,537 new cases on Thursday.

“We’re not where we need to be for the millions at risk of infection here in Los Angeles County, and waiting to do something will be too late, given what we’re seeing,” L.A. County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said, per a report by KTLA.

Currently, Universal Studios Hollywood does not require face masks for vaccinated Guests. Although masks are encouraged for those who are unvaccinated, Universal is not checking vaccination status and it is therefore up to Guests to choose whether or not to wear a face masks. However, since LA County is reinstating the indoor face mask mandate for everyone in the entire county, regardless of whether a person is vaccinated, the rule would apply to Universal Studios, as it is located within Los Angeles County. So, we expect Universal to start requiring face masks indoors by Park opening on Sunday.

At this time, Universal has not issued a statement or update regarding its face mask policy. Currently, Universal Studios Hollywood’s website states, “We encourage all Guests to wear face coverings indoors,” and the language has not yet changed to say that masks are becoming a requirement for indoor locations. We will share more information as it becomes available.

Disneyland Resort does not currently require masks for fully vaccinated Guests. Face coverings are encouraged for those who are unvaccinated, but, like Universal, Disneyland is not verifying vaccination status, so the choice of whether to wear a mask or not is up to Disneyland Resort theme park Guests. Disneyland is located in Orange County, not Los Angeles County, so the LA County indoor mask mandate does not apply to the California Disney Parks. If Disney makes an update to the face mask policy, we will share the news on our website.
