If you’ve been following the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard domestic abuse allegations since the story first broke in U.K. News Group Newspaper publication, The Sun, you undoubtedly already know that the situation seems to grow more contentious by the week.

Most recently, after Pirates of the Caribbean actor Depp lost his right to appeal his libel case loss in London, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) bodycam footage surfaced that seemingly indicated Heard might not have been entirely truthful in some of her domestic violence claims.

The footage, which was from a 2016 incident in Mr. Depp and Ms. Heard’s downtown Los Angeles penthouse apartment, showed that the residence was not, in fact, in disarray, as the Aquaman actress had claimed.

Now, German outlet BILD has shared that LAPD is reportedly probing Heard for perjury — an offense that can lead to up to four years in jail in the State of California. Per their article:

Police Department of the City of Los Angeles (LAPD) has started an investigation against Amber. The reason: She is said to have given false information about the famous incident in May 2016, in which Johnny Depp ravaged the shared luxury penthouse and hit her with a phone.

On May 21, two 911 calls came in. The first unit arrived at Johnny’s 849 South Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles at 9:05 p.m. and the second at 10:28 p.m. A bodycam video of police officers who had been summoned then filmed a different scene than previously indicated by Amber Heard in a court in London.

At this time, LAPD officials have not confirmed the investigation.

Should Heard ultimately be tried for perjury, however, it could turn the tide of Depp’s legal woes. The Alice in Wonderland actor’s fans have come together to support him — as have exes Winona Ryder and Vanessa Pardis.

There is even a petition for Disney to allow him to return as Captain Jack Sparrow that is over half a million signatures strong. Currently, The Walt Disney Company has indicated that Depp will be replaced by Margot Robbie in the reported sixth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

Previously, there were reports that Disney might consider letting Depp come back to the popular Pirates movie franchise if he were to win a retrial in his U.K. libel lawsuit. Heard being found guilty of perjury could go a long way toward this coming to pass.

As for Heard, she is currently set to reprise her role as Mera in Warner Bros. Aquaman 2. Depp was fired by Warner Bros. and has been replaced by Mads Mikkelsen as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Again, however, nothing has been confirmed at the time of publication.

What do you think about the latest development in the ongoing Johnny Depp and Amber Heard saga?
