Traveling into the State of California is still “strongly discouraged,” according to the California Department of Public Health. But revised guidelines for California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Blueprint For a Safer Economy stipulate that vaccinated out-of-state visitors may come to California to for “activities or events” that are otherwise restricted to in-state visitors only. So, if you are from another state, you are allowed to attend an activity or event in California as long as you can prove that you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

But what about theme parks? Are they considered an “activity or event” that a vaccinated out-of-state fan can attend?

Per local Southern California news source the Orange County Registerthe California Attractions and Parks Association (CAPA) released the following statement:

“Amusement parks’ responsible reopening plans are guided by the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy which was recently updated with an addendum to Blueprint Activity & Business Tiers Chart,” CAPA officials said in a statement. “This addendum now allows fully vaccinated persons from out of state to visit or attend activities or events that were previously restricted to in-state visitors. As vaccinations become more widespread and state guidance evolves, individual parks may update their own responsible reopening plans in accordance with state and local public health regulations.”

So, does this apply to Disneyland? It could, but that doesn’t mean anything is changing at the moment.

At this time, the theme parks of the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park) are only reopening to California residents. This is a policy that has been in place since Disneyland Resort released the full details of their reopening plan. Furthermore, on April 30, only in-state visitors will be allowed in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

The following language is currently displayed on the top of the Disneyland Resort official website:

To enter a park, both a park reservation and valid ticket, for the same park on the same date, are required for Guests age 3 and older. Until further notice, only California residents may visit the parks, and in groups no larger than 3 households, per state guidelines.

The website displays a similar message on the Experience Updates webpage, a place where Guests can find everything you should “Know Before You Go”:

As required by California directive, the Disneyland Resort is only welcoming in-state visitors in parties no larger than 3 households at this time. We will provide additional information about who may visit as it becomes available.

Additionally, on the webpage where you can purchase tickets, another reminder of the California-residents-only rule is still displayed:

Discover the excitement of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, featuring 2 amazing theme parks—Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park! A multi-day ticket will let you make the most of your visit and see what both parks have to offer! Please be aware that until further notice, only California residents may visit the parks, and in groups no larger than 3 households, in line with current state orders. Proof of residency may be required.

As CAPA indicated, theme parks “may update” their own reopening plans in accordance with state and local regulations. However, at the time of this article’s publication, Disneyland Resort has not yet stated when out-of-state visitors are allowed to visit the theme parks. So, until further notice, you have to be a California resident in order to visit Disneyland or Disney California Adventure on reopening day.

Currently, tickets are available for April 30 through late June. View the theme park reservation availability calendar here.

We will update Inside the Magic in the future when Disneyland releases more information or when their current policies are updated.
