Disney Is Stopping Attractions When Guests Remove Masks

in Walt Disney World

An Image Warning

Disney World has had to make many changes since reopening to accommodate safety rules and regulations brought on from the pandemic, one of the major changes being enforcing face masks. Disney World has extremely strict mask rules —  and they are very serious when Guests disobey, serious enough to stop attractions while they are operating.

The other night, this Inside the Magic reporter was at Magic Kingdom, and took a ride on Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland. The animatronic stage show is a 20 minute indoor performance that provides socially distanced seating for Guests, and is often a relaxing way to get away from crowds and heat at Magic Kingdom.

Although you are only greeted by a Cast Member at the beginning of the show before they leave the theatre, they are always watching. Carousel of Progress travels through the 20th century and during the first act of four, which is the 1900’s, it seems a Guest took their mask off.

Since the theatre is so dark and distanced, I, of course, did not notice what was happening behind me, but all of a sudden, John (the star of the show) froze in his speech and the entire show came to a halt. The Cast Member who welcomed us at the beginning of the show came over the speakers and alerted all of us that someone had taken their mask off and the show would not continue until they put it back on. Almost immediately were we transported back to the hustle and bustle of the 1900’s. It seems that even when you think you are alone, Disney Cast Members are watching Guests on attractions to ensure protocol and safety is always being followed. Something I was very grateful for.

If you need a refresher on how to properly wear a mask while on Disney World property, the rules are as follows:

Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming. You may remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, but you should be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing.

All face coverings (whether disposable or reusable) must:

  • Be made with at least two layers of breathable material
  • Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free

At this time, based on guidance from health authorities, neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas, and face coverings containing valves, mesh material or holes of any kind are not acceptable face coverings.

Costume masks are also not considered appropriate and are prohibited from being worn, in alignment with our existing rules.

The use of face coverings is not a substitute for physical distancing.

Disney World has mask signage all over the parks, audio announcements, My Disney Experience app reminders, and Cast Members who are on the look out reminding Guests to keep their mask on, over their nose and mouth. If not, they will be removed from property. Stopping attractions is something we have been seeing happen on a few rides at Disney World, so make sure you are always following the rules, and never think Disney is not watching — because they always are.

Has your Disney World attraction been stopped due to Guests not wearing their masks?
