Disney Coronavirus US

We have updated this article since it was originally published to include the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding coronavirus and the Disney Parks.

Coronavirus fears starting to grip the United States and the rest of the world much faster than the disease itself. That fear–albeit rational–just caused Disneyland Tokyo and Tokyo DisneySea to close a few weeks. All three Disney resorts in Asia are now shut down.

But if you are planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort in California or the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, or if you have a Disney Cruise booked out of Miami or Port Canaveral, you needn’t worry. You can–and should–still go on that trip! Disney Parks and Disney Cruise ships based in the United States are still safe from China’s Coronavirus.

Thanks to the U.S.’s strict measures on international travel, as well as safety precautions being put in place at the state level such as California, there is an intense vetting process for guests coming from countries more affected by the virus. Leaving the theme parks at Disneyland and Walt Disney World very much protected.

At this time, there have been two confirmed cases of coronavirus in Florida and at least 40 reported cases in California, with two suspected cases in Orange County, CA. Both states are declaring this a public health emergency. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean you should consider canceling your trip to Disneyland or Disney World at all.

Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort have not yet made official statements on their websites regarding coronavirus, unlike the international Disney theme parks. If an when they do so, we will update Inside the Magic. But for now, these parks remain open and operating as usual. There has not yet been any indication that the Disney Parks in the U.S. plan to change their operations because of the worldwide spread of coronavirus. However, we trust that Disney will announce any changes in operations as soon as they believe they need to do so for the safety of their guests and Cast Members.

As every coastal state, especially Florida and California, closely monitor their sea and air ports, Disney Cruise Line also implemented some procedures of its own. A thorough questionnaire which adds another level of tourist health vetting. Questions include if you have visited countries like Mainland China, or Hong Kong in the past 14 days. Disney Cruise ports of call like the Bahamas are even more strict. Passengers will not be allowed to disembark from their cruise ship if they visited China in the past three weeks.

We at Inside the Magic felt it necessary to remind our readers of that and share some reassuring facts about the Coronavirus. While the thought of a further outbreak is terrifying, you can still go enjoy your Disney vacation.

We also want to remind you to take extra precautions by staying clean and hydrated. Be honest in answering questions about your recent travels, cover your mouth when you cough and please stay home if you are not feeling well. Especially, if you are experiencing the virus’ flu-like symptoms such as a fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
