Disney World wait times for Millennium Falcon shorter than Flight of Passage

It’s opening day at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. So we expect massive crowds and wait times in the queue for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run to defy believability.

But on the contrary, the most recent wait times given on the My Disney Experience app tell a different story. At about 6:00 p.m. local time tonight, the wait for Galaxy’s Edge’s only attraction was not quite an hour and a half.

But the surprises don’t stop there. It’s very interesting to look at the wait times for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run–the newest attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort–and compare the wait times to those for older (yet still somewhat new) attractions, such as Flight of Passage at Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Wouldn’t you think the wait times for the newest Star Wars-themed attraction would be much longer than for most other attractions, especially today? We did too! But the My Disney Experience wait times don’t lie and they can’t be denied.

Just after the park opened this morning, wait times in the queue for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run exceeded 300 minutes, per the My Disney Experience app, so what does it mean that the wait times have nearly diminished when compared to this morning’s wait times in the queue? Are Star Wars fans really turning out for the opening day at Hollywood Studios’ newest land? Or are they there and experiencing burnout already? Surely not, but it is interesting that in the park right now, you’ll wait longer to experience Flight of Passage than to pilot the Millennium Falcon!

Still, since our team at Inside the Magic has experienced Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run for ourselves, we can assure you it’s an excellent attraction. It seems to us that even though the wait times are lower than a lot of guests had expected, that doesn’t mean the attraction is unpopular or that the land isn’t a success. As Chairman of Parks, Experiences, and Products Bob Chapek puts it, intensely high wait times don’t equal success–good guest experience does.

And with today being the grand opening of the 2019 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, we’re sure guests all across Walt Disney World Resort are having to split their times between the parks this week.

But what’s your take–is it unusual for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run to have a manageable wait time on opening day, or does it speak to Disney’s good crowd control practices? Let us know in the comments!
